Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 111,000 miles

So here's the deal everyone. I bought this truck as a manager demo vehicle with 13,000 miles on it. I've had nothing but problems since I purchased it. After ready many reviews I have finally figured out that the transmission issues are clearly an ongoing battle. Never once did the dealership tell me about these issues.

This truck has more miles on the back of a wrecker than being driven on the road. I could go on and on with the issues. My major complaint that pisses me off the most is. Low and Behold just rolled 111k miles and now my transmission is completely slipping while going up slight grade, gears act like they are falling out if I'm in automatic mode not using the downshift/upshift control on the shifter. I mean if I'm running in 4th gear and its in automatic and I come to a light and have to slow down. You can actually feel the gears completely release for 3rd, 2nd, and 1st gear.

The truck surges forward to the point that you don't know if the brakes will stop you. This first started out only when running in 5th gear up grade on cruise. So I assumed it was a vacuum leak. Boy oh boy was I wrong. On my way home from work going 65 on cruise, truck starts surging so I kick off cruise. Truck RPM's and Speedo start bouncing all over. Manually downshift to 4th gear and clears up.

Well that worked for 2 days, while waiting on a dealership to find the time to look at my truck. So now I have an appointment with the dealership. But with reading everyone's posts online, this is an ongoing issues and I'm SOL due to the fact that I'm now over the 100k mile mark. So lets see how much they rape me on this repair bill. Dealership techs now a days are jokes. They charge based on a book not on actual labor conducted. This is a shame and I'm truly pissed off about how GM handles these complaints.

Silverado 1500 LS V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50 miles

Since this clunking/hard shifting/banging in to gear does not happen in tow/haul mode, the issue is line pressure. GM is aware of this issue, and cause, which is a soft aluminum TCC valve. There is a fix, machining out the valve and pressing in a steel valve. GM recognizes this issue, and at one point authorized me to have the job done at their expense at a local transmission shop. The next day they rescinded their offer. The dealership I bought the truck from, Lucas Chevrolet in Mt. Holly, NJ agreed to replace the valve body under warranty, since the issue happen immediately. This was after 3 trips back with the same complaint.

They even drove me back to work. The next day they called me and told me the truck was done. When I went to pick it up, no work had been performed. I know this because I placed a small of tape between the bottom of the steering wheel and the column, which would have broken if the wheel was disturbed. I also recorded the odometer reading to the 10th. When I called them on this the service writer said, something to effect of "what do you care the thing has a 100,000 mile warranty"!

I went to another dealership, Lester Glenn in Toms River NJ, same story, although the staff was very nice..

Now 3 years later it doesn't consistently shift in to Overdrive, and the rpm's drift meaning there is slipping.

Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 500 miles

I do love my truck but one of the biggest complaints that I have about it is that when I am traveling at lower speeds when the transmission goes to shift it "BANGS" into gears. It has done this since I have owned it. I know I have talked to other owners of Silverados and they say the same thing. I have mentioned it to the service department and they have checked it and say they see no problem.

Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,700 miles

Transmission hesistates to go into gear when shifting out of reverse. This is typically followed with a loud clunk after the few second delay. I have also had issues with the four wheel drive not working properly. The truck has visited George White here in Ames, Iowa for both issues and of course nothing can be found. They did reprogram my transmission to shift differently from 2nd to 3rd gear. I saw someone commented on an earlier posting the their vehicle also surges forward unexpectantly at times... Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this... I would like my 2010 back.... Never had these issues. Thanks Chevy!

Silverado 1500 LT Vortec 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,000 miles

I have taken this vehicle to Berglund Chevrolet several times and the truck does not duplicate the problem for them as I cannot spend all day driving around with the shop foreman. The transmission makes (2) clunking noises while down shifting when coming to a stop and then (kind of) lunges forward before stopping completely. I also hear a rattling noise when stopped also and in drive. They have put it on the computer and have said it reads normal, but this cannot be normal, can it?
