A loud thumping noise comes from the rear axle area. The Chevy dealer claimed that the u-bolts that hold the axle to the leaf spring becomes loose and need retightening. I had the dealer re-torque the u-bolts but the noise still is there. The dealer claimed it was -€œnormal-€ and offered no solution other than claiming a Tech Bulletin was issued instructing dealers to check u-bolts at service appointments. I brought my truck to a private repair shop and the mechanic noted that both rear leaf springs moved under the ubolts When the truck was rocked side to side. This is not safe as the axle can become out of alignment causing steering issues and excessive tire wear. The private shop quoted $1,100(est) to replace both leaf springs with aftermarket springs and u-bolts. The mechanic claimed that they have seen many Chevy pickups with this issue. I am asking you to please investigate this issue and instruct GM to repair this manufacturer defect.

I have filed a complaint already about my 2018 silverado1500 L, never received a response about the complaint filed. My truck road very rough, it had a bad vibration and shimmy in the front end. The front end would nose dive when braking. The truck would pull to the right when going around a right curve. The left front tire was riding on the outside edge. Taking to long to get the truck to stop when braking. These complaints were ignored by the GM service centers, I was pretty much called a liar. The left side front tire edge was very visible to the eye on the tire riding on the edge. Called a liar again. At 16000 miles I took matters into my own hands. I bought new shocks and struts and had a certified service center put them on. The truck rides well, no more shimmy in the front end, the steering is fine going around a right-hand curve does not pull to the right anymore. The truck is now braking like it is supposed to. I have a warranty on this truck the dealerships denied that anything was wrong with the truck. Why when I had the shocks and struts changed the problems went away. I keep the GM shocks and struts. I took a strut and placed the rod end on a board and pushed down on the tube the rod went into the tube with hardly any resistance they were junk. I am going to make a video demonstrating the GM strut and send it to the news media along with the paperwork showing where I had taken my truck to the dealership service centers. If GM is not going to honor their warranty and tell their service center techs to lie about the problem the public has the right to know. I am going to put the date that I had the shocks and struts changed on the next step.

Transmission shifts hard from first to second/second back to first. I noticed this about a week after purchasing truck. Shifts hard mostly in 2wd, not so much in 4WD or hauling/towing. Leaf springs and shackles have squeaked since day one of purchase. Engine oil pressure is at 12-15psi at idle and will not exceed 32-35 psi under normal conditions with or without a load. I've changed the oil filter and oil pressure sensor multiple times. There also seems to be a chirp/tick coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment. I've been trying to narrow it down for the last few weeks. Seems to be something going on in the engine itself or possible the ac compressor. Truck has 42,450 miles

Squeaking noise under box. Dealer took 2 months to get a replacement leaf shackle for left side. It did stop the noise. My transmission has a hard shift in gears when taking off and coming to a stop. Transmission seems to hang up shifting from low gear T a higher gear and does the same when coming to a stop. Seems to be getting worse. New truck, now has 21,000 miles but worst investment I have made switching from a foreign truck back to made in America. This hard shifting takes place when starting off or coming to a stop on any highway or street.

Started to hear clunking noise around 15,000 miles. The noise started to get worse as time went by. Takata recall. While backing out of my driveway I heard a loud clunking sound coming from the under carriage of my truck. It stopped for a second and then did it again the clunking sound got progressively louder. I noticed the sound at low speeds, high speeds, going over minor bumps and big bumps in the road. Additionally, while going over big bumps I could hear what sounded like flexing and/or grinding metal coming from the rear suspension. I stopped the vehicle and proceeded to rock it back and forth and noticed the knocking/grinding sounds coming from the under carriage and the suspension. I got back in the vehicle and drove off and the sounds again started. I have infant twins that I was driving in my vehicle at this time and I became very concerned for their safety and mine. I took the vehicle to the dealership (since it is brand new and at the time only had 2-3K miles on it). They said "its a known problem in Chevrolet trucks" the paperwork they gave me after the "repair" stated" lubricate rear leaf springs and re-torque bolts" this indicates I had loose suspension components. The problem occurred again and I again took the truck to the dealership. They again stated the same repair and refused to provide any other remedy and also refused to replace the leaf springs. The same problem happened again. Again I took the truck to the dealership and again they refused to provide any other form of service to remedy the problem. My truck has less than 8K miles on it and it has been in the shop on 4 separate instances for the same suspension problem. The clunking and loose suspension noises have returned and I will be taking the truck in for the 5th time. This is unsafe, and my wife refuses to drive in my truck nor allow me to drive our children in our truck because shes concerned for their safety!

Vehicle developed a vibration at 80mph which fades in and out. Tires were road forced balanced, and alignment was done. Transmission fluid was changed. The shacking at 80mph continued. On a 30 mile commute at 80mph the vibration is extreme 25% of the time (like driving over a rumble strip), moderate another 25% of the time, and the other 50% the vibration is not noticeable.

Silverado 1500

  • 100 miles
Constant vibration/shake coming from the vehicle at any speed above 65 mph. The truck has been like this since the day it left the dealership. When on highway and vibration is felt, putting the truck in neutral does not change the vibration, slowing down makes it slightly worse, speeding it makes it slightly better. Feels like there is something seriously wrong with the geometry of the truck making it unsafe to drive at highway speeds. Road force balance was already done and the problem persists on a brand new truck.
