Silverado 1500 RST 5.2L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,000 miles

Trailer brake warning flashed first then power steering was lost completely, luckily I was only pulling out of a parking spot and managed to get it the two blocks to a friends. parked truck overnight then tried to move it the following day and more warning lights flashed (service side detection, service power steering, service backup camera etc. ) Two days later I was able to start and get truck to move with no issues however during my drive the warning lights flashed and power steering was lost again nearly causing me to run into off ramp guardrail. I was able to research the issue and several others reported same issue with the dealerships suggesting several expensive part replacements including power steering module among others. When I was able to get the truck into the dealer I specifically told them to start the diagnosis by checking for corrosion on the Grounding strap located under the chassis and not to just start ordering parts. Received a call 2 days later and they told me that was exactly what the issue was and the repair would cost around $400.

Silverado 1500 LT 2.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 27,112 miles

My truck had set for 3 days as it has before and the battery went dead. The next thing after driving 1 block I lost power steering and it took about 100 lbs. of effort to steer. I can't imagine what would have happened if my wife had to drive this way.

What is the repair so this doesn't happen again.

Silverado 1500 LT V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,661 miles

I own a new 2019 Silverado LT Trailboss. I came out to start the vehicle and take my family for a ride. Upon starting the truck, the dashboard warned of caution service power steering. I was in park at the time and the column appeared not to turn the front wheels due to a loss of power steering. I shut the truck off and restarted the vehicle and the same warning appeared again. I tried reverse and determined it was unsafe to drive and shut it off. I waited three minutes and tried starting it again and the problem went away. So I drove away and have about another 50 miles since, and have not seen the warning again. I'm very concerned as I drive on the highway and backroads a lot. The drag of no power steering was a problem - it seemed impossible to move the steering wheel when turning.

Update from Nov 21, 2019: Dealership found a low voltage error code was tripped. They found battery had a very low charge of 50%. It took 60 minutes to recharge. They said they found not issue with the alternator and could not explain why the battery was low. I had driven the vehicle for plenty of hours and it was not sitting long.
