The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado crew cab with Firestone destination le tires, line size P245/70 R17. The contact was traveling 70 mph when the sidewall blew on the rear driver side tire. The tires were labeled as having a lifespan up to 60,000 miles but the failure occurred at 16,000 miles. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that they had never seen the failure in the manner in which it occurred. There were no repairs. The dot number and VIN were not available. The vehicle failure mileage was 44,085.

Silverado 1500 Hybrid 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,171 miles
Driving at low speed in downtown macon, right front tire blew out. Sidewall had 0.5 inch slit and obviously was beginning to "separate" (I could see what looked like a thread). Tires were just balanced/rotated week of April 10, 2006. Tread looks ok. Could see "deterioration" around entire tire sidewall above lettering and below tread. Inspected the inner side of the tire wall and noticed same deterioration in same area (rubber was cracked in defined area completely around the tire).
