broken crankshaft position sensor

Car all the sudden had trouble starting and threw a code. Car accelerated poorly. Code was for crankshaft position sensor. Car almost left me stranded an hour from home when it didn't start. Crankshaft position sensor looked like it was devoured by a hungry animal. Looked like something got loose by the flywheel and hit the sensor.
