problem #1

Dec 302019

Suburban LTZ 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Bought this vehicle in 2012 off the lot. Had lifter problems just under 100k miles, luckily the engine was replaced under warranty. Now, just before a long drive for a vacation, a new problem. When the vehicle was in motion, the car would make a whining noise when moving. The faster the car went, the louder the noise got. We completed the trip and then took the car to the dealer right away. The dealer said that something was wrong with the axle in the front and that the entire front end (drivetrain components) needed to be rebuilt or replaced. It cost a lot, I can't remember how much, but it was more than 2K. Dealer did the work in 2 days and the problem hasn't come back. Hopefully it doesn't come back again.

Update from Apr 26, 2020: Updated to note that this actually occured in 2018 and not 2019. No other information changed.
