Suburban LTZ 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 98,990 miles

Bought this Suburban in 2012 off the lot to replace an older vehicle. At 96,500 miles or so, was standing outside of the car when it was idling and heard a clicking noise. It was very quiet but definitely noticeable. Not too long after, the noise got louder and the check engine light came on. Then the vehicle started losing power and had to be restarted while driving several times. Took the vehicle to the dealer and they said that the lifters were damaged and the engine needed to be replaced. Thankfully it was under the 100,000 mile drivetrain/powertrain warranty that we purchased, so we didn't have to pay probably $5-10K for a new engine and labor. Engine was replaced and the problem hasn't since re-occured, but other problems have occurred.

Suburban LT3 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

The vehicle will have a fluctuation on the oil pressure gauge from approx 35 psi to low 20's at idle. When oil pressure fluctuates, there is a noticeable amount of vibration from the motor. I not talking about oil pressure drop after coming to a stop, but instead when car is standing still. Happens in these gears: Park, Neutral, Drive. When ever you fell vibration inside the car, just look at the oil pressure gauge IT MOVES a whole lot. Warm, hot, or cold engine itsl the same. Less than 31,000 miles. Chevy needs better engineers. Extremely annoying for a new car.
