At low speeds such as driving in a parking lot or city traffic, upon activation of the vehicle brakes, the anti-lock brakes activate unexpectedly on dry pavement thereby extending the stopping distance. No crash has occurred yet some near misses have happened. This occurs at almost every low-speed stop. I called Chevrolet as this exact condition is described under an existing broad recall for vehicles in my category but they insist no such recall is active for my vehicle. They further strongly and repeatedly requested "for their informational purposes" that I, at my cost, take my vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer for servicing. If they later determined the cause to be defective parts they would discuss reimbursement options. I am a good mechanic and regularly maintain my own vehicles. Rather than pay for dealer service on a defective design that is well known with a published resolution I will make the repairs myself. I want NHTSA to be aware of Chevrolet's strong arm tactics to induce customers to pay for diagnostic service they should be covering and this problem has not been fully resolved by existing recalls. They have many vehicles on the road susceptible to this dangerous condition. If provided a complaint or tracking number I will follow-up with you on the results of my diagnostic and repair work.

2002 Chevy Tahoe purchased used 11/2006 with 50,000 miles. Gas gauge never went to full. 4/2010 fuel pump was replaced $1000, now it's 7/2010 and gas gauge fluctuates while driving with full tank of gas to empty, car slows down and then suddenly picks back up with gas gauge showing full again. Very unsafe on freeways!! was told by pepboys when they replaced fuel pump that something wasn't working with the computer, oh really, but of course we were told that 9 times out of 10 that it was more than likely the fuel pump and they didn't work on the computer. Cost of repair was probably the deciding factor. Now I feel unsafe while driving because I don't know if the vehicle is going to suddenly slow down while driving on the freeway or anywhere else for that matter. What's up Chevy", what's wrong with the computer?"
