Another crack in the dash on the passenger side of car next to air bag. Is my entire dashboard going to explode and fall off? What about airbag? Will it operate correctly at this point. My 4Runner is looking better and better! Should I have stayed with a foreign made car?????

Tahoe LT3 8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,000 miles

Crack 1st noticed near top left of Psgr airbag panel. Shortly afterwards, driving down highway and hear a loud pop, crack appeared on left side of driver "hump". Called Chevrolet, not a defect or their problem. 3 more cracks and now center of "hump" can be pulled off. leaving a nice whole in dash.

I'm concerned in an accident, dash will explode into pieces if airbags deploy. Contacted Chevrolet 2nd time and told "if you are concerned for your safety, replace dash as your own cost." Great Customer Service there, Chev sells me a $50,000 vehicle and the plastic falls apart, and it isn't their problem?!?!?

Obviously, either they used the wrong plastic, got the chemical makeup wrong, forgot to add any UV protect ant to mix, or the dash is binding and can't flex as needed to compensate for heat/cold.

Asked on 3rd call, how to stop/prevent cracking and Chev admitted they are experiencing issues with the dashes, but had no advise to give. A search on internet shows 100s-1000s of people with the same issue and photos.

Good PR for a recovering GMC? Buy our vehicles, they'll last as long as it takes to get you to the street. And come back for more....lol.

I have a '07 Suburban work truck with the exact problem/crack as my personal vehicle. Buddy has a '07 Avalanche with same problem. I'm sensing a trend here.....

Tahoe LTZ 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

I have a 2007LTZ Tahoe and the interior quality is not good. I have 46,000 and taken good care of this car. I use a sun sheild and part under cover. I not have a cracked dashboard, pereling steering wheel, and pleeing chrome handles ( which chevrolet is going to fix.) I am very upset by the quality of workmanship. I understand there are bad problems with things but I feel that a car of this value should last longer than 3 years when it is taken care of. I have seen on the internet that all 3 problems exsist for other people and I think Chevrolet should help us with this because all 3 are very costly to get repaired and if we don't when we go to sell our car the vlaue will decrease .

Tahoe LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,010 miles

Went on a camping trip in northern CA sept 5th and I figured it was somehow b/c of the 101 degree heat that the dash just cracked. Took it to the dealership and they said my warranty expired in January but I was still under the warranty mileage at only 30k miles so they would need to keep the car overnight for the supervisor to come in the next day and APPROVE my dash getting fixed for free. This along with the door handle silver lining that peels off and is sharp and cuts peoples hands (they said this is a very common problem and chevy has made an extended warranty on all the door handles) also the rubbery stuff on the steering wheel started peeling off and my driver mirror shakes when I go on the freeway. They said they should be able to fix this all at no cost to me.....they better

Tahoe LT 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 59,000 miles

Whew! I am somewhat relieved to find out I am not the only one this has happened to. Although we purchased the tahoe used last year, that crack was definitely not there. We called the 800# on the "extended warranty" that we purchased when we bought the vehicle, the customer service rep said the dash was not covered since it was considered an interior accessory and not a mechanical part. I also asked about warranty coverage for the power windows that have begun squeaking when I roll them down. The rep said "it depends on if it"s the motor or the regulator". I am extremely disappointed that when the sales guy said it covers everything since it doesn't seem to cover anything. Lesson learned. Please.. if anyone has better luck getting this repaired, let me know.

I rarely have anything heavier than a ball cap on my dashboard. So when I saw this humongous crack in my dashboard...i was very very infuriated. The crack is about 10 to 12 inches. The next day my wife and I was outside...I asked her to look at the crack, and tell me what she thinks...she said..Daaammmmnnn.....she then said...you have one by your air bag also..I was like WTF...another one..yes..2 cracks..within..24 hours. I contacted GM customer service...they requested I take it to a local dealer..and he wanted to charge me to fix it because it was out of warranty....

i was furious to see that GM wasn't standing behind their product. Somethings should never go bad. The lady asked me if i parked it outside...I was like...hhhmmmmm yeah..its a car..not a damn house cat..of course its outside....my opinion is..by default..all cars are outside...inside garages aren't the norm.

MY DASHBOARD CRACKED ABOUT A YEAR OR TWO AGO. IT WAS ONLY 2-3 YRS OLD AND WE COULDN'T BELIEVE OUR EYES! I NEVER TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THINKING IT WASN'T COVERED, OR BETER YET, THEY'D NEVER BELIEVE US AND SAY IT WAS OUR FAULT. AFTER READING THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM, I'M DEFINITELY TELLING THEM NEXT WEEK WHEN I TAKE IT IN FOR OTHER PROBLEMS I'M HAVING.

Update from Aug 4, 2010: WELL, I FINALLY TOOK IT IN FOR MULTIPLE PROBLEMS AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE DASHBOARD CRACKING OVER A YEAR AGO. I SHOWED HIM A PRINTOUT OF ANOTHER COMPLAINER WHO HAD THE SAME INTERIOR PROBLEMS AS ME AND ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY, THEY FIXED IT. THE ASST. SERVICE MGR WHO WROTE UP MY ORDER SAID THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIS, SAME EXACT SPOT (LEFT AIR BAG CORNER).

Tahoe LTZ 5.3L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

I purchased this Tahoe back in September of 2006 as a new vehicle. When I first drove it home I had problems with the drivers side middle captains chair not wanting to fold up. It took 3 attempts for the dealership to fix it correctly and in the process they dented my new Tahoe. I was flaming pissed at that. Then about a year later the driver side and passenger side inside door handles the chrome like material started to peal off and was sharp and cut my finger. I had to bring it back to dealer to have the two handles ordered and replaced. Then I got two recalls one on the battery rundown protection and another one on the module for the heated washer fluid system. When bringing it back to the dealership several times on several different days to get all this crap fixed I notice a crack in my dash board. Also, the outer coating on two of the ac buttons is worn completely off and it looks so tacky!!! Today is September 15, 2009 and it is back in the shop getting looked at and I am told the crack in the dashboard may not be covered under the warranty and that they would have to look at it to see if it was a crack caused by tension to know whether or not it will be covered under the warranty. They also have to order my 2 replacement buttons for my ac controls in my Tahoe. Is it just me or is this a lot of problems to have had on a 2007 Tahoe it is after all only 3 years old. I love the way the vehicle drives and handles but starting to think it is cheaply made. Sadly enough the LTZ model I purchased has a sticker price of $49,000. You would think that any Tahoe since they are all highly priced would be made/manufactured with higher quality parts than they are. Im very disappointed at how quick things are wearing out.
