I went to Chevy dealer to have the rear view mirror replaced, but according to Chevrolet document # PI1290 (issued by GM) the fix is to replace the windshield assembly which comes with the bracket installed on the new windshield assembly. The PI document goes on to say “DO NOT attempt to reinstall the bracket onto the windshield.” Clearly GM knows about the manufacturing defect of losing the adhesion of the mirror bracket to the windshield, but does not want to correct the condition. Also, they want the customer to pay for a windshield replacement rather than issue the new glue being used to the Chevrolet service centers for simple replacement of the rear view mirror mounting bracket which would be a much lower cost to the customer. So if GM wants to force a windshield replacement on the customer they should at least issue a recall to replace the windshield especially since the PI covers a large group of vehicles.

Update from Jun 13, 2018: Document # PI1290 was issued by GM on Aug 7, 2014.
