Traverse LT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,000 miles

I had been annoyed with all the steering noise for a few months and knew I had better get it fixed before it went out completely and caused an accident. Found out about the GM special coverage bulletin 14329B and thought the issue would be covered. Turns out they will replace my PS pump at no charge, but will also need to replace my steering gear for $1644 (plus >$150 for diagnostics.) This is my second GM clunker in a row, so I'm breaking up with GM for good.

Traverse LTZ

  • Automatic transmission
  • 59,030 miles

Noticed a squeaking sound coming from the steering wheel while driving at a slow speed in a parkade. Took it to the dealership and was told the steering gear assembly needed to be replaced and that the power steering pump would fail if the work was not done. The cost was $1925. This is the second steering issue to arise with this vehicle in the past 15 months. The previous time I noticed a rattling noise while applying the brakes on a right turn. At that time the vehicle had 80,030 km on it. Turned out the CV axle had to be replaced at a cost of $619. So I have spent $2,544 in the past 15 months on steering issues with this vehicle.

Traverse LT 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 92,050 miles

At mechanics suggestion we flushed system and replaced fluid. So far, this seems to have quieted the noisy steering. However, this has me greatly concerned about future steering issues. This should NOT be an issue at less than 100,000 miles, on a modern vehicle.

whinning noise when steering wheel turned

I for the last 30 years stood by owning Nissan automobiles. After searching I bought the used Chevy Traverse Lt AWD in July 2016 after a test drive was good with this vehicle being my SUV retirement gift. WRONG I wish I would have stayed with NISSAN. I am SOOOOO disappointed. The steering noise and repair cost is outrageous. Chevy suck it up and do a recall before someone is killed and file millions of dollars in lawsuits which will be awarded to the families. Chevy is this the American way?

Traverse LTZ V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,500 miles

Noisy steering system, kept getting gradually louder, concerned something was going to break while driving! Rack & Pinion was replaced, works fine now.

Once again, this should not happen on a $30,000+ priced car that's only four years old with 74,000 miles! Heard of others having the same problem.

Traverse

The steering is so noisy and seems to stick at times. I wanted to add steering fluid but no one seems to know how to access the place you pour the fluid. I honestly don't feel safe in this car.

Traverse 2LT

How can the whole steering system be worn out at 75000km or 46000 miles? It must be made of cheap plastic--just like the rest of the vehicle!
