Venture 3.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 143,537 miles

It all started when the transmission would occasionally slip out of gear. Then it started getting worse. Occasionally when downshifting, the van wouldn't drop gears when merging on the highway, creating a very dangerous situation. Things got worse when the transmission delayed going into gear. A grinding sound began to sound from the transmission. Finally, it died when it wouldn't shift out of first gear. When replacing, a major pitfall is you're confined to using 1997 transmissions since they redesigned them in 1998.

After paying $1200 for a used transmission, everything seems to be fine. Now, at 290,000, its starting to show signs of trouble when downshifting....
