problem #2

300C LX 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 61,300 miles

30 miles from home and "shift" would not leave "park" Rang local dealer who said it would need towing in. Agreed to tow, but then used pen knife tool to get into shifter unit. By sheer luck poked finger in right place and shifter moved to drive. Cancelled tow and drove home.

Did internet search and found Chrysler K39 saying it should be a free repair for my car. Rang Chrysler recall and was told that K39 only applied if the unit had already had a repair to the shifter by a Mopar Chrysler dealer. What a load of horse dung. No mention of that on K39 printed off from the internet. Seems Chrysler likes to make it up as they go along.

The part that fails is a piece of plastic that will fail eventually on all cars fitted with it. They know this as they quickly replaced it on later cars and only sell the upgraded part.

They say on K39 that it is an hours work to replace it and as the part can be purchased for $14 why are dealers asking $350 to fix it?

they know about this shifter lockout problems

car will not shift into gear. I got stuck on the side of the road, this is very dangerous. I could have really gotten hurt if this had happened in heavy traffic.
