I own a '99 Chrysler 300M. The dash has develop a 10" vertical crack on the dash above the air-bag. I spoke with several other owners of similar 300M's, all have experienced this problem. I feel thesis a flaw in manufacturing and a major safety issue that needs to be corrected.

The contact was involved in a crash. The contact's vehicle was struck by an eighteen wheeler on the driver's side front and quarter panel. The vehicle went airborne and landed on all four wheels. However, the front airbags never deployed. The occupants in the vehicle were wearing seat belts. Last spring when I pulled my car out of my heated garage that it was stored in all winter I noticed about a 3" crack on the left side of the passenger side airbag. Since then, that crack has grown to over 7" long and another one appeared this winter on the right side of the airbag that is about 3" long. I am afraid that the airbag will deploy without provacation. I also found that this may be a common problem on this website: www.chelstyle.com/chelstyle_jeep_complaints_chrysler_complaints_300M_dashboard_complaints_before_you_buy_A_chrysler_jeep.htm I went to the dealer and he said there is nothing the dealership can do about it and he has seen others with the same problem.

Dashboard has cracked open around the outline of the passenger side airbag. Separate cracks of 3,4, and 6" lengths. Cracks began appearing right after expiration of warranty. According to manufacturer, only fix is to replace whole dash and they will not cover it. Afraid of airbag deployment implications.

Took car in for recall on the stick replacement. Dealership also replace speakers in front dashboard. Dash since then is cracked alone the passengers side air bag. This is a very dangerous and serious crack that can lead to an unexpected air bag deployment, we have records to prove that the dealership crack the dash when (they) dealership remove the front speakers for replacment as well as the recall on the stick shift recall.

I have a split over the passenger side air bag. The split started out 3 inches long and now is 8-9 inches in length. My vehicle was taking to the Chrysler dealership and told this was not a warranty item and the car is out of warranty, so I would have to come up with $1500 plus installation for a new dashboard. There are at least 50 300M's in this area, that have the same problem and I wish I could get all of them to put in a complaint, but some people never do what needs to be done. This seems to be a material problem were the material is stretched over the air bag. I am not sure if the air bag will deploy or if it will deploy when not necessary startling me as I drive and cause an accident. I've looked on this web site and see where several others have complained and I complained previously. Is this defect being investigated? this seems to be a safety issue and could cause serious problems. My vehicle was taken to a vinyl repair shop and the service man said he wouldn't fix it, because he would be afraid the air bag wouldn't deploy properly.

Passenger side air bag has created enough pressure on the dashboard material so as to cause a 6 inch vertical split in the material. Is this an indication that the air bag could prematurely discharge and possibly present a hazard to a passenger and/or startle the driven sufficiently so as the precipitate an accident.
