PT Cruiser ES 3.2L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 95,000 miles

My dad decided on this car because he holds high standards for Chrysler after working about 10 years for their dealerships. This 2007 PT Cruiser has been just horrible. I got it used from Carmax, which is supposed to undergo a rigorous check for potential issues. Well I guess this one just fell through the cracks. One week after purchasing it, the horn would go off by itself, and sometimes when I used it, it would get stuck on. The fan for the AC was not working properly, so my dad was able to change it, but Chrysler doesn't give too much confidence it will work a lot. Good for Advance Auto parts and their lifetime warranty in case this part decides to go out again.

Just about 1 month ago, all the lights on my dashboard came on while driving and the car made an attempt to shut down while moving at 45mph. This happened about 5 times back to back in a 2 minute time lapse. The same situation started to happen more frequently about 5 days later when it happened every time the car would be moving. Without any notice, the car would "fake turn off" by itself, then quickly regain power and continue. Two weeks ago, the car finally turned off in the middle of the road after stopping at a red light and hit the gas once it was on green. Another turn off happened a couple of days after that and this has happened about 5 times already. I took it to check on the battery to make sure that it was not the battery not working, but the guy said the battery was in great conditions. My dad cleaned the poles and it seized for about 3 days, then it started back again, but this time, no lights would come on, just the beeping sound the car makes when you are about to crank the ignition before starting the car. This has also happened twice while driving at 65mph, which really concerns me as I have my 6 year old son with me most of the time.

I have made several attempts to find information, but it seems that it's only word of mouth of how bad this car performance has been.
