Rented a chrystler towne & country minivan 2005 and dropped a bottle cap when the passenger door openened. Reached left hand slightly under right side of van and middle of arm touched the pipe (exhaust pipe?) hanging down running down right side of van. The pipe is all the way on the right side of vehicle. There is no warning signs, nor is it covered. I received a very bad burn on my arm. My concern is why is it located so far to the right (low) and running all the way down the vehicle (not up under the van), and there are no warning signs anywhere. I am very concerned if a child retrieved a ball even slightly under the car they could get seriously injured. I am now left with a serious burn and scarring and do not want this to happen to anyone else. There is no reason for the location of this pipe. I advised avis rental car of the injury and showed them my burn and they were going to write a letter (?). I would never expect an exhaust pipe to be on the right hand side by the drivers/passenger door, but I hear it is due to the "stow N go" system and there is no room up underneath the minivan for the exhaust pipe.
