We've had our 2009 Town & Country for about 3yrs. The brake problems started after a few months of use. They started off wobbling when stopping. I took it in for service, they said I just need my rotors turned. I asked them to replace them because we hadn't had the vehicle long enough to need our rotors turned. But they refused. While it did drive better, the vehicle never drove smooth again. I told them it's still not smooth but nothing was done. My husband (mechanic) has changed our brakes 4 times in 3 yrs. He changed the brakes a couple of months ago, two weeks later we had squealing and rubbing when stopping again. He decided to purchase brake pads from the dealership (very expensive) but when he went to put them on he discovered the brake pads weren't the problem. Apparently there's a problem with the ball bearings for which Chrysler has extended their warranty but won't extended a loaner car to it's "valued" customers for their inconvenience. Now we have to either be without a vehicle or pay money for a rental because Chrysler sold us a faulty vehicle. Oh and the leather on my driver seat has cracked also. My husband's 10 yr old Ford isn't doing that.

Rear rotors and pads give grinding noise most pronounced in cold weather. Just like the recalled front rotors and pads. The root problem most likely is inferior quality of the rotor metal. Should advise Chrysler to replace rotors with a superior quality rotor, not just a quick fix "cutting the rotors", because the cutting will not cure inferior metal constitution to begin with.

Brake calipers do not consistently release. They continue to drag and cause excessive heat. Reported it to dealer. They claim it was normal. Rear brakes and rotors had to be replaced at 23,000 miles and now 31000. You can hear the brakes come on while on the highway at 65mph with out ever pressing the pedal. I also found that I'm not the only one, several auto websites have hundreds of people writing very similar issues with the 08-09 T&C (townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.F1bbe4A/0).

I am about to put my fifth set of front brake rotors on my 2009 Town & Country. I have tried mopar, autozone, and Napa rotors. Chrysler employees have told me that this is a well known problem, that affects the Town and country and the journey, which share brake components. They also told me that the mopar rotors were "junk". I called the customer assistance line and the person who took my report, told me that Chrysler is aware of this problem and has just completed a complete re-design on the components. They extended the warranty to 30 or 36 thousand miles, which does not help me. I received a call back from a case manager, whose job was clearly to get me off the phone. She did not want to know anything, was not interested in the dates and miles of rotor changes, and basically said: Once you tried non-Chrysler parts, we are no longer willing to help you. She also said that she knows nothing about re-design or any "known brake problems". my trying different manufacturers' parts actually proves that the issue is not the fault of the rotors, but likely the design of the brakes. Something is causing them to wear improperly. The rotors "warp". I installed a set at one year (23,916 mi), two years (40,997), six weeks later at (43,745) and now need my fifth set at 46,400 after another six weeks. One non-Chrysler mechanic said that he thinks it is possible the brakes are undersized for the minivan. My dealer is attempting to help, trying to find a solution. Officially, Chrysler says that changing rotors every 10 to 15,000 miles is "acceptable". it is not. I had two previous Chrysler minivans and changed brakes between 80 and 100,000 miles. Chrysler need to recall these brakes - when I drive on the highway with the family, brake distances are very long and the vibration of the steering wheel upon braking is extreme. This is very dangerous.

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler Town and country. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently pull towards the right while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer to be aligned at least seven times, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was operating within specifications. The failure mileage was 1,700. The consumer also stated there was an issue with the brake calipers and its related components. The guide pins on the caliper was corroded which caused the brakes to drag, and in turn caused overheating conditions. Also, the tire, aluminum wheel, pads, wheel bearings, ABS, fluids, seals, hoses and other rubber type items not limited to mounting to grommets and other chassis components failed. While I am driving down the road, the van looses steering, brakes and acceleration. It's as if it completely shuts down. I put the car in park, turn it off and restart it and it seems to be ok. This has happened 4 times with the van, once with my husband, twice with me and once with the dealership. The last time it happened to me I had 5 children in the car and was traveling 35 mph in the left hand lane of a busy street. Luckily, I was not rear ended! the dealership had "fixed" the van a week earlier by replacing the wireless ignition module. I immediately returned it the dealership after the last incident. They have had it for 3 weeks and can't duplicate the event again. Chrysler called us on Friday and stated that we have to pick up the car because the can not find anything wrong with it. I'm terrified to drive the car, especially with my children. I drive the car multiple times each week on a highway and can only imagine the outcome if this happened on a highway as opposed to a city street.

While driving I first experienced premature tire wear and when I bought 4 new tires ($650 dollars) later, I noticed that there was a loud humming noise. I returned to the tire dealer and they replaced all four tires with a better tire but the noise continued. I then took my vehicle to the car dealer and they explained that I needed new brake pads, rotors and my wheel bearings needed to be replaced! what a shock! with only 31,000 miles, I needed all of this to be repaired.

Purchased 2009 Chrysler Town & Country new. Took to dealer at 19K miles because front rotors were so warped that it was unsafe to brake at highway speeds due to extreme shimmy of steering wheel. Was informed that "brakes" were only warranted for 12K miles so replacement cost would be on me. Called Chrysler customer assistance line to complain that the rotors wore out before the pads wore out, neither of which should have failed at 19K miles based on my driving characteristics--mostly highway miles, gentle breaking, etc. Chrysler agreed to cover the replacement cost. Shortly thereafter Chrysler issued an "extended warranty" on the T&C braking system but owner is responsible for a deductible depending on mileage. Vehicle now (9/2/11) has 35K miles and feeling pulsing when depressing brake pedal but not excessive. Took vehicle to dealer for unrelated issue and mentioned brake concern. They tell me that front brake pads and rotors need replaced and it will only cost me $100 deductible since Chrysler has extended warranty. I tell them to do the work since I'm concerned about safety of myself, my family, and other motorists. I call Chrysler and they think it is a great deal that it will only cost me $100. I understand that brake pads are designed to wear but when did rotors become a wear item, especially faster than the pads" all 4 pads had 8/32" life remaining--I have pictures. Chrysler had no good answer other than to quote me the language from the warranty booklet that they are only covered for 12K miles but that Chrysler recognizes an issue which is why they issued the "extended" warranty. They can warrant the power train for the life of the vehicle but they can't warrant the brake rotor for more than 12 months" this seems to me to be design negligence of a critical safety item and should be addressed more than just discounting the replacement every 16K miles.

I own a 2009 Chrysler Town and country touring. I now have approximately 60,000 miles on it. We have had to replace the brakes several times. Shortly after replacing, the brakes have a high pitched squeal. We have been told that this is due to extra hard brake pads. Eventually, the pads warp due to extreme heat and the steering wheel vibrates when braking. We have replaced the brake pads at least four times since owning the vehicle. In addition, we have experienced a rough transmission. Most recently including stalling when stopping at highway exits. We believe both of these issues are causes for concern for safety.

The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who advised her that was normal wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000. Updated 11/03/11 the consumer stated the dealer informed her, the brake issue was normal wear and tear. However, the rear brakes began making a grinding sound. When the brakes began grinding and vibrating, she took the vehicle to the dealer where they replaced them. The consumer stated a few weeks later, she received a check from Chrysler for the replacement of the brakes. The consumer believed the brakes were too small for the vehicle. Updated 11/30/11

The contact owns a 2009 Chrysler Town and country. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph when pressure was applied to the brakes and the steering wheel began to vibrate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the front rotors were warped and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. There were numerous times that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the similar failure. A front end alignment and wheel balancing were performed and the problem persisted. An independent mechanic stated the manufacturer designed the vehicle with extremely small brakes and the improper size resulted in premature brake and rotor wear, and would require replacement every 6,000 miles. He also mentioned faulty rotors were a common problem with this model year vehicle. Most recently, the contact experienced the front brake calipers sticking and overheating. The manufacturer was notified of the defects and they accepted the responsibility to replace the front rotors and brakes at their expense. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
