Red lighting symbol appears on the dash while I'm on the highway. Suddenly my car loses its horsepower and I begin to coast. I pull over to the side and the car begins to shake violently until I put it in park. When in park, the car idles to about 2500 RPM. I've done a bit of research and it appears countless people are having the same problem at the same mileage with this vehicle. According to them, it is caused by the electronic trottle control that seems to be impossible to fix.

2009 Dodge Avenger rpms would rise and fall 200-300 at idle. Exhaust/muffler would rattle. Have been to multiple shops and they cannot diagnose the problem. It is taking longer to start up. The alternator was replaced 2 months ago. The battery was replaced last week. Yesterday, it was checked by an autozone employee for codes and nothing came up. I started the car and it quickly died there after. Drove it around all day after that and not a problem. Today it had a very rough start, rpms went above 2000 and back down to about 400, constantly, and car was shaking a lot. I backed out of the garage and while I applied the brakes, it almost died. I barely got it in park before it did die. The whole time the check engine and etc lights stayed on. This is a first for both to stay on. Etc has came on before and stayed, then never showed up for another 1-2 years (now0. Car has almost 87,000 miles.

My check engine light came on P2004. I then took it to a shop and was advised it was the electronic throttle control. They have been getting many customers taking their cars in for the same problem. Was advised to take it to Dodge because there should be a recall. The shop did not even charge me for the diagnostic. The car is not drivable. I stalled and was almost hit at a light. I called Dodge and it is going to be $105 for a diagnostic and once they find out what needs to be done they will give me a price. The information from the other shop told me to start looking online. There are thousands of forums with thousands of complaints. Dodge closes at 4pm on Saturday and they cannot look at my car today. In the meantime, I am left stranded. If a recall should be made, please make it soon.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled on the highway while driving 65 mph. Both the dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs of the failure. The vehicle was then towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed that there was an electrical failure, causing the fuel pump to fail and become defective. The mechanic replaced the harness and the fuel pump. The approximate failure and current mileages were 76,900.
