Caliber SXT 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 92,584 miles

For about 1/2 a month had a sound under the hood it sounded like a Diesel, higher speeds not very noticeable until I went to my uncles and noticed the ride from my brothers to my uncles it wasn't getting quieter. My sister's boyfriend said it was looking bad and I was hoping for it to hold out till I got home, but it had gotten so bad that the day my girlfriend and I were going to come home the alternator was completely destroyed, it ran on the battery to get to the shop for a squeezed in appointment. I just wish that the alternator was mounted were they use to be, on the top not in the middle of the block.

Caliber SXT Cvt 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,000 miles

At first the car started making a loud whining sound anytime I would accelerate. It sounded different, but I didn't think it was a big deal. After about a week it had gotten a lot louder, and much more noticeable. It also started making a loud knocking sound all the time. It was very annoying! I thought it had something to do with the transmission so I made an appointment right away for it to get checked out. I took it in and the mechanics said I needed a new alternator immediately. It was only in the shop for a few hours, so it didn't take long to fix. But, it was a little spendy!
