problem #3

Caliber Mainstreet 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 147,870 miles

Started experiencing a steady whine from the car and had trouble pin pointing the source. Ultimately tried to check that the transmission fluid was at the right level but the system is closed and is a dealer servicable item. After a complete diagmostic of the transmission the shop found the transmission fluid dipstick was broken so they couldn't check the fluid level. They confirmed the whining was coming from a "straining" hydrolic pump in the transmission. The diagnosis is that a fully rebuilt transmission will be required to eliminate the problem. The transmission plus lsbor and warranty will exceed $4,000.
