I have a 96 dodge dakota. replaced the switch 4 times because it melted. Me and my dad got tired of it melting called Dodge and they said there was no recall at this time. so we rewired the switch so the Head Lights would run threw a relay. that was about 3 to 4 years ago have not had the problems sence.

Dakota 3.9L

  • Automatic transmission

Wiring melted at headlamp switch, causing minor fire melting the harness as well. Was simply driving when I smelled wire melting then lost all headlights. After pulling battery to prevent further melting I found 10 inches of the wiring melted and burnt from switch. Replaced both harness and switch with aftermarket parts and the issue seems resolved.
