Dakota 5.0L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 134,000 miles

This is the second time we have had to rebuild the transmission in 3 yrs. This time everything needed to be replaced inside the transmission and it cost us $2,000 when everything was finished. I love my truck but man the money involved.

Dakota SXT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 89,095 miles

I've had my transmission rebuilt 2 times and I heard from a friend that there's a piece in the column that controls the shifting in the transmission an Dodge won't tell people this just to rebuild their transmission. I've got this off a guy that worked at Dodge an he's the guy that told me. I hear about the water under the carpet and it's some times the drain hole they put in a bigger drain line in mine from Dodge. it hasn't happen ever since. I believe dodge needs to recall the piece in the column for the transmission and quit lying to people about their shifting problems. What a scam...........

Dakota Sport 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 110,000 miles

I again have owned this truck for about 5 years now but I have noticed lately that the transmission is giving me problems. Fluid is good but sometimes it takes a bit to go in reverse after you put it in reverse. Any suggestions anyone?

Dakota Sport 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 42,000 miles

Had a Dodge Dakota- LOVE DODGE! My 5th Dakota, I'll never buy another. Traded it in for a 02' Suburban. We bought as my wife's car, Transmission Total Failure at 42,000 Miles, Bands first got stretched out by previous owner/ magnified it by me going downhill revving up tranny/ engine to save on brakes- Teton pass between Idaho & Wyoming- (many brakes get overheated & fail,- Elevation change of 4,000 feet up /down) I've done this hill many times with other vehicles- (my v10 98' 3/4 ton Dodge numerous times with 8k trailer behind me) with never an issue.

Mechanic/ Shop/ & Dealer said to just drive tranny tell it quits, Bands just don't let it change gears easily- hard "jam" into 2nd gear, killed the engin if we took a quick stop at a stop sign.

It was a beautiful truck, i'll buy a standard Dakota if I find one-

Had a 02', 98', 94' All tranny's gone out. Sucks. 98' & 94' Had high miles though.

Traded it in for a burb, my first Chev, & I don't think my last-
