Durango 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 30,000 miles

Our 2001 Durango has for many years had issues with Dodges version of an ABS system... We have had the dealership check it out a minimum of two to three times because when driving and needing to stop in a hurry, the brakes are prone to releasing for an instant and then catching again.

You can feel them release and your speed pick back up prior to the ABS reengaging again.

Dangerous is the way I see it but the Dealer was not helpful during the extended warranty period getting it repaired or even identified.

If I slam on the brakes, there is usually a need to STOP. Dodge ABS system design has issues whether they want to deal with it or not. I still see a lot of early 2000 Durango's on the road.

Durango 5.9L

I was driving and went to brake and they went hard as a rock and I couldn't stop , I went over the curb a smashed into a big grey mail box and a fence, I had to pay out of pocket for all damages , which was fine , after I spent 2800 plus tax to fix the ABS I left the garage and as I was pulling out again the brakes went hard and I couldn't stop so I parked it and asked the dealership to pick it up , after another 1299 they gave it back and again i still have this issue , I'm lucky I haven't killed anyone because of this issue and if it were to happen I would be responsible , yet i didn't make or sell these garbage vehicles , where's the recalls dodge , what happened to safety first

I loved my Durango...until I owned it kept up with all of the maintenace check ups etc...thing cost me more than my 1979 mustang. Every month it is something new, usually not a small thing either. June it was the ABS would be grinding on and on even when the truck was off. Mechanic laghed pulled out the power to it, problem solved, no speedometer, and the brakes suck (but they sucked prior to this so really what is the difference. Now it is AUgust and the AC clutch blew...to be comninued

I am having the same problem with the ABS module and I am waiting for a back order part from the dealer. It sounds like it could cost around $1800. I have heard of a lot of people having the same problem. How do we get Dodge to do a recall on it?

Durango SLT 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission

I HAVE A STEEP DRIVEWAY AND WHEN I AM GOING DOWN THE DRIVE AND MASHING MY BRAKE, THE BRAKE PEDAL JUST GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES!!! AND YOU CAN HEAR THE ANTILOCK BRAKE MODULE TRYING TO KICK IN BUT IT JUST KEEPS MAKING THAT AWFUL NOISE. YOU CAN PUMP THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SOMETIMES GET SLOWED DOWN AND THEN THERE ARE TIMES THAT I'M NOT SURE WHETHER I'M GOING TO STOP AT ALL. TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH IT IS A LITTLE UNNERVING. I HAD THE DODGE PLACE LOOK AT THE PROBLEM, AND HERES WHAT I WAS TOLD. I WAS MASHING THE BRAKE PEDAL TOO HARD. WELL I DON'T CARE HOW HARD I'M MASHING THE BRAKE PEDAL, IF A KID RUNS OUT IN FRONT OF ME OR IF I NEED TO STOP SUDDENLY FOR ANY OTHER REASON, WHEN I MASH THE BRAKE PEDAL MY CAR IS SUPPOSE TO STOP!!!!!

Durango Sport 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission

The ABS motor failed on my 2001 Durango with only 80 some thousand miles. I've been told it would anywhere from $800 to $1200 to have the motor replaced, which is what was diagnosed by a mechanic as failing. The cost does not balance with the value of the vehicle!! I've just been driving it with black tape over the idiot lights! It should NOT have failed with this low of miles!

I bought my 2001 durango used in 2002 with 26000 miles on it. I have spent over 2000.00 in repairs since on control panels and modules. The abs and parking brake lights continue to stay on after starting the vehicle. What is up with this?

Durango 5.2

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,000 miles

In 2003 I brought my 2001 Durango used from a Nissan Dealer with 57k miles. I brought a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty which expired last month. A year after I had my Durango, the ABS and Brake lights started to come on. I would start the engine, everything ok. Then I 'm driving on the highway and all of a sudden they come on. I stop and restarted the engine, the lights were off. I went back to the dealer, they could not find the problem. This past weekend at 70K miles, I got new tires. When the car was on the lift I looked at the rotors and brake pads. They looked a little worn. The lights were coming on and staying on. Could this be the ABS sensor? I'm thinking about a complete brake job? I also have small issue when I fill up the gas tank. The gauge show's empty? Then at 3/4 full the gage starts working? Wondering how to correct this problem?????.

The abs light on the dash is constantly on, this occured February of 2006. The car was bought second hand back in October of 2005. I went back to dealer to complain. The dealer stated that due to the number of kilometers and that the vehicle was over four years old that they would not cover the repairs. Are there any other owners of a 2001 Dodge Durango experiencing the same problem of a failure of the ABS module?
