The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Durango. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle switched independently to drive and immediately decelerated in the middle of the road. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the transfer case motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 155,000. The VIN was not provided.
