I have a 2006 Dodge Durango that the paint is peeling and cracking and the Rear Hatch is rusted with a big hole in the middle. I also noticed that a lot of other Dodge Durangos that I see have a similar issue. When I went to the Body Shop to ask about the paint, they told me the same thing, that they see a lot of trucks like mine that are rusted out and that it seem to be a factory defect from Dodge. Not sure why they never did recall for this.

Dodge was decent enough to correct my problem. I had to call them because it does state that it has to be rusted through from inside out but it was clear to see that dodge screwed up when putting chrome on the hatch and not putting some kind of piece behind it to protect from messing up the paint.

I own a 2006 Dodge Durango SLT. When I got the car it was in awesome shape. 1 month later I noticed a small bump (on the rear hatch by the chrome trim). within 2 weeks it became a 2 inch bump I took it in to my dodge dealer where I was told it a "normal" problem and they see " quite a few" Durangos with this problem " but due to Chryslers terms on rust unless there is a hole no fix." I was told by the body shop manager that on the trim piece there are 2" sharp" pieces that are caused from the molding at the factory. And the vibrating and movement from driving cause the piece to gouge the mettle causing rust. Now I might not be a body shop Tec" but is this not a manufacture defect?

Update from Jul 20, 2014: I own a 2006 Dodge Durango SLT. I took it in to a dodge dealer when rust began forming on the rear hatch. I was told it a "normal" problem and they see " quite a few" Durangos with this problem " but due to Chrysler's terms on rust unless there is a hole no fix." I was told by the body shop manager that on the trim there are 2 "sharp" pieces that are caused by the manufacturing of the trim, and the movement from driving cause the piece to gouge the steel causing rust. is this not a manufacture defect?
