headrest expoded

Headrest deployed without impact - deployed while vehicle running but in park. Loud pop and seat hit me in the back of the head. It could have caused an accident if I was driving!

Passenger head rest exploded yesterday. I returned to vehicle, which was parked and loaded groceries. My husband is the driver and I got in on Passenger side of our 2013 Durango and just shut the door and suddenly I got hit from behind in my head and a bag noise was heard.

I held my head and stated.. "what was that" my husband looked over and said," oh, the headrest is all open and pushing forward." Vehicle was in parking space, and off. I could not stay in the front passenger seat,. Got in back seat and we went home.

Today, I am calling the NHTSA.gov/ recalls to see if this is a recall? also, upon checking complaints for this there are numerous complaints on the headrest exploding with or without a passenger and also happening to drivers, of Durango and Jeeps since 2019? Why has this NOT been a recall?

I was also told to call the Manufacturer, which I did. Received an open case # 76728368. Hoping for a response from the specialist. Thank-you. ND
