problem #1

May 222006

Grand Caravan SXT 302lV6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

I purchased this Caravan in May of 2006 new. Transmission clunked on down shift when I drove it off the lot. What I mean is that if you are rolling to a stop and don't stop completely and start up again, it clunks and sounds as if something inside is going to come through the floor. I took it back to dealer 3 times and he made me feel as if I was stupid, because the service dept. and mgr. said the clunk, which by the way, they duplicated, was

a "NORMAL CONDITION." That dealer was Ozark Dodge in Ozark Mo.

I called Dodge and they told me to take it to another dealer, which I did. At least they admitted that it was a problem, but they did not know what to do because Dodge had not told them there is a problem. I again called Dodge and got no where with them. I waited a while to see if they would come up with a recall. I heard nothing from them so in December of 2007, I called them again and told them I was going to pursue the matter through the lemon law. They told me that they had sent my case # to the regional mgr. for this district and he would contact me. This past week I hadn't heard from them, so I called again and they said, well, You will have to take it to a dealer again to be checked again. I was told that the dealer had my file from the regional mgr. When I called them, the service mgr. said he didn't have the file. In other words, they are all passing the buck. I did take the van in again today, Jan. 04 2008, fifth time, and was told after they drove it for 5 minutes that there was "NO PROBLEM" and that everything was ok with the transmission. I called an attorney that handles lemon law cases, and he will get back to me Monday. I know that the clunking is not a normal condition and will never trust this van again.

The last 3 weeks, the transmission has been shifting rough and slipping on the up shift.

Is it only a matter of time before I'm stranded on the road, or worse?
