Grand Caravan SXT 4.0V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 144,000 miles

I have replaced the front brakes several times. Now they need done again after only 6000 miles. The whole van shakes when I put on the brakes. The price of replacing is getting higher each time. What's the solution to fixing them?

Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L V6

2008 Dodge Grand Caravan, brake rotors started shuddering within the first two years when the brakes are applied. I have had three sets of new rotors put on, and two of these new rotors had to be turned within a year. At the time of this writing, the vehicle has just over 60,000 miles.

I stopped using the Standard Dealership Rotors and Pads and went with the Top of the Line NAPA Ceramic Pads and Rotors with no help, the Napa Ceramic pads and rotors have lasted about a year and are ready to be turned or replaced again. Chrysler knows full well that the Rotors and Pads are too small for the weight of this vehicle, and they also know that the heat build up from too much weight and too little rotor is immense, which causes the rotors to warp, but they also know it is too expensive to upgrade to larger rotors, pads and calipers.

I am beyond disgusted with either the service that I have been getting at the auto place or the inherent problem that this vehicle, Grand Caravan, has with its brakes and/or rotors. The stupid thing is only 3 years old and I have had to replace the rotors twice, turned twice, and the brakes changes every 5-6 months or so (because of the rotors).

Is it an inherant problem with the vehicle design that it can't roll straight or brake consistantly? Or is the auto place bending me over? Either way Im sick of spending money on these dam things. The mechanic says its my fault for being in stop and go traffic and slamming on the brakes. Sorry, don't do that, I don't need or want whiplash. And I can't help the stupid people that don't know how to drive. So yeah, Im in stop and go traffic, but who isn't. Im done, if I didn't like the roominess of this van, color, and my Sirius radio, it would be gone.

Grand Caravan LX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

Three thousand miles ago I replace two rotors. Today when I took my vehicle in the shop I need to resurface all four rotors. I have only had the car for about five months. The shop said that it is my fault for braking too hard down hills at a high speed. Both times I have driven to Denver and back. I down shifted all the way there and back. Only using my brakes for a few seconds at a time. I can't be replacing rotors every time I go over a mountain pass. My family and I have driven many vehicles to Denver for the last 35 years and have never had to replace our rotors.

Have to change the front brakes every 25,000 - 30,000 miles. Doesn't matter what brand purchased. Rear brakes last roughly 55,000 miles which isn't terrible for a minivan.

I bought my caravan from carmax in ontario, it was never mentioned that there was a recall on the rotors. i had to fix my breaks then the rotors twice since November of 2010. i had front bearings that needed to be replaced, i fixed those then got the recall on them. the heating burned up and the air conditioning was leaking, got the recall on those but had to pay for the heating that could have seized my motor. this car is a perfect pain in my behind and NO ONE will help. i have sent all of my invoices the dodge/chrysler over 2 months ago and not even a letter back. i want my refund, i want a new car, this is ridiculous. its like they are afraid to stand behind their own product. i hate making that car payment when my car is in the shop at least once a month.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had rented 2 different Caravans before I purchased. Told the salesman that I had brake issues. He said ( surprise ) that there was no problem. Within 7500 miles I was experiencing rough braking.
