problem #2

Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 114,000 miles

Vehicle stalled intermittently going down road, dash lights flicker on and off, windshield wipers turn on intermittently, radio not working, windows not working, locks not working, all dash lights now not on, gas gauge not working, rpm not working. Vehicle is currently not driveable.

We do believe after lots of research that we need to replace the TIPM which is gonna easily cost us $1,000.

Grand Caravan Limited 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 117,200 miles

2008 Grand Caravan, Swivel and Go (swivel 1st row of back seats facing rear, table installs between front and back row of seats, pretty much more hassle than its worth) Mileage was 117,200 when I had gotten gas right before this happened. Road trip from central TX to LB CA, then Seattle, WA area. 2 hrs outside of Long Beach, CA wipers randomly came on, could not turn off. The dash went completely blank. Speedometer froze at 80 mph, fuel gauge at full, had just gassed up. (all analog gauges froze at present display). Lost all digital, mileage, trip, engine, seat belt warning, etc. Headlights stayed on while engine running, no high beams, no control from switch. Could not turn wipers off, had to pull fuse under hood, very inconvenient while driving! ;-) No turn signal. No interior lights. Controls on steering wheel for radio did not work. However, cruise control on steering column did work. All center console controls still worked, ie, radio, dvd, USB port, AC/heat, hazards, back up camera. Tried to figure out problem myself, no luck. Drove car from Long Beach to Wilsonville OR, no new problems. Dealership in Wilsonville, OR did a great job of diagnosing problem immediately, had them show me the codes. (5/25/16) They removed the cluster (dash gauge panel) they said they have to send it away to try to repair and recover data ( i think that's what he said). Problem, their tester said my mileage was over a million miles. Fortunately I had been documenting it, or I would have no clue. They said it will be over a week before they get it back. They gave me a loaner car, my dealership wouldn't have done that. The quote for the repair was $750-800 range, I can't recall, I'll find out next week!
