Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 127,720 miles

2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L has stalled 4 times while driving at speeds of 15mph, 30mph and twice at 45mph. When the vehicles stalls you lose power steering and power brakes. The radio still works (cuz I need a great tune as me and my family plunge to our death) and the only thing that displays on instrument panel is the Stability Control Light.

The first time it happened I was in a roundabout and I pulled over and stopped the vehicle and restarted it, now I notice it has stalled, i shift it into neutral and restart. I have had the 2 recalls completed on ignition switch and I only use one key so it is not the weight of the key chain that is causing it.This is supposed to be a family car but now my wife wont drive it for fear of this happening with kids in vehicle and having an accident.

Come on Chrysler/Dodge your better than this....well at least I thought your were! I have an appointment with local Chrysler/Dodge dealer in area but I am sure I will get the run around even though this is well documented on many Dodge forum sites.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 133,000 miles

We can just put it into gear and start driving and within 30 seconds all lights start flashing and the Van will shut off completely. Cannot get the key out of ignition, and it refuses to re-start for at least 5-10 minutes. It loses all power, no flashers, nothing. This is extremely scary when you have your 13 year old in the Van with you and it happens on the Interstate. Have had to have Van towed home too many times to count because it just will not start.

Grand Caravan Crew

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

My vehicle has been shutting off while driving since August now. I was able to get this video since it happened when no traffic was behind me. It has been posted on Dodge Canada page as well. I have an investigation open with Transport Canada. I have talked to FCA multiple times. My vehicle has been to Bayview Chrysler Dodge service department multiple times.

There is a recall on 2010 vehicles having the same issue. Christine from Customer care tells me today "if there was a safety concern on your vehicle it wouldn't have been released by the dealership". Is a vehicle that turns off while driving not a safety concern? I have been told they need a code to find the issue, they have a code and installed a data recorder and have had the data for a few weeks, but still I am left with a vehicle that shuts off while driving and no answers as to what can be done to fix this.

Grand Caravan SXT 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,284 miles

We purchased this vehicle used and have had no major issues with it. Recently, at low speeds (less than 35mph, or 56ish kmph for our imperial system challenged friends) the vehicle will stop running.

The indications are: -Car is moving from but slows without braking because power is not being supplied to make the car go. -The tachometer drops to zero, because the engine is not running. -The ETS (electronic traction system) light turns on -Vehicle is harder to steer because power steering is not available when engine is not running.

The remedy is to: -Pull over, put in park and start from the get go. -Pop the vehicle into neutral and start on the go (more often this is what we do to remedy it).

I noticed there was an open recall on this vehicle to replace the WIM (NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V373000) with one of the symptoms being the ignition key inadvertently moves to the Accessory or Off position while running. At first I was extremely happy thinking that this might make our problems go away.

I took it in to our local Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler/Chevrolet/Buick/GMC dealer (seriously) and they performed the recall for us.

Within a few days, the exact same thing was happening. So we took it back. The same dealer did the following: -Cleared the computer codes to have a clean capture -Updated our PCM, apparently there was an flash upgrade.

We drove it over the weekend, things seemed fine. But then, it did it again. Twice in the span of about 20 minutes.

So I told my wife to take it back to the dealer and see what the codes were.

Now the have determined: -The TPIM is the problem -And the inverter is throwing codes too, so that probably needs replaced.

I paid them for the diagnostic and told them I'm going to sit on this pending $1500 repair.

After doing some web research I found out that Chrysler vehicles with a TPIM problem seems to be common place, yet there has been a small recall for certain vehicles.

I am mostly posting this "complaint" to help get a recall issued and to set up a situation where I can get reimbursed, should I go ahead with the fix and a recall is issued (I think that happens anyway, but just to make sure).

Grand Caravan 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 74,500 miles

While going around a curve the ignition shut off as the power steering did also. I am a 6', 280# man that took all I had to force the wheel to turn to make the turn safely. If it was my wife that it happened to, she would not have been able to correct the situation and probably would have wrecked. Thank goodness it was me driving when it happened. Of course,m it can happen again at any time so I told her to always have control of the wheel when going around a curve in case it happens again and MAYBE she can steer to safety.
