Grand Caravan R/T 3.6 VVL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,000 miles

We bought this car from CARMAX a couple months ago. Today it started making a loud whining noise. As I was waiting to get onto the highway. The gear shift felt like it slipped. It went high rpm's I'm saying at gear 3 before it shifted. Did the say thing on the highway a few more time. I think it's the gear box or transmission. Any thoughts?

Grand Caravan

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,500 miles

At only 1500 miles on the van, I'm hearing slight whining from transmission in gears 1-3 after a few miles of in-town driving. It is a sign of future issues with the transmission I'm sure. I see there is a TSB reported July 14, 2015, NHTSA 10058728, TSB SB-21-046-15 regarding adjusting ATF to the correct level paying close attention to hot and cold temp measurements.

At 1500 miles I am considering an ATF service to remove any new car transmission "break-in" contaminents that might be prevalent in the ATF resulting in whining noises.
