problem #107

Mar 082005

Intrepid 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles
While driving to work, I noticed the engine was making rattling noise. There was no oil indicator light on or engine light on. I took the car in to 3 separate mechanics and was informed by all 3 that the car needed a new engine. They all said that there was sludge in the engine. I took this car in as recommended every 3000 miles for an oil change. This car is barely at 62000 miles and there is no way this should have happened. I was informed it would cost me a bare minimum of $4000 to get the car running. I called the corporate office of daimler Chrysler and they insisted they had not heard of a problem with these engines.

I have a 2000 model Dodge Intrepid with 35,000 original miles on it and a blown engine. I have since found out that this is quite normal for the 2.7 litre V6 engine. They are very expensive and very hard to find used because there are so many incidents. You can look on ebay motors right now at the Dodge Intrepids and there are three with bad motors. Please help me.
