I have noticed shuddering of the car and the steering wheel shaking when braking. When I took it to the dealership to have it checked, they checked the front brakes, saying that I still have about 75% left on the pads. I was relieved until I heard the next statement from the service rep, informing me that the problem was in the REAR rotors, and that they would have to be replaced to the tune of $460. The service dept said that if it was the front brakes, it would be covered under the extended warranty (yes I got the letter, and brought it with me to the dealership), but the warranty did not cover the rear brakes. Great, so here we go. They are replacing the rotors, and the rep advised me to keep my receipt in case Dodge extends the warranty in the future. Bleh!

The car is a 2010, it has 65000 km on it, mostly highway, sparing the brakes and it is going to cost me $1000.00 to fix a problem which is known, acknowledged by Chrysler.

Have 2010 Dodge journey. at 12000 miles I took to the dealership because major shake in front end especially when breaking. They told me rottors were warped so not a warren tee problem. We could not afford for dealer ship to fix so we spent $250.00 to fix it. I now have 40000 miles on the car and am replacing the brakes and rottors for the 4th time cant afford to trade it off, I want chrysler to fix this. I am afraid to take my car on the road very far for fear it will fail.

In 2010 my girlfriend purchased a brand new Dodge Journey. Having 3 kids she needed a new vehicle. At 12000 miles or so though she experienced a brake problem. Front then rear and not once but twice each. A thousand miles or so after the problem occurred and was corrected so we thought the rear rotors began to glow from being red hot and was easily seen if you were a neighboring vehicle. A complaint was filed with dealership and the rotors were changed yet another time but this time a rep from Dodge happened to be present. The rep stated due to the pads rubbing on the rotors all the time to much friction causing extreme heat. The rep modified the calipers and the problem no longer exists. Well, as of today have not experienced problem again.

I purchased a dodge journey 2010 last year in january. It had only 60km on it. at about 6000km I had to replace my front rotors because they were warped....uh what?! Dodge said they would do it for me for no cost.... Then i get a letter in the mail saying there was an extended warrenty for these "faulty" breaks/rotors. I went down to the dealership and the guy at the front desk meerly laughed said he knew about it and I should be happy I got it done for free.....WTF?!?! So go ahead about to 11000km, driving down a hill go to hit the breaks and my foot was thumping away on the break pedal, and the steering wheel was shaking, pulll of to the side, I called dodge and they told me to bring it in right away. I go down there and they tell me it was a faulty set that they put on and would do it for no charge to me. Now i'm at 22031km and i need another new set!!! But here is the kicker the last dealership who did my tire rotation f*cked up my front tire and they have to chip, yes chip, off my front lug nut....ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?! Its day three and the tire is still stuck without my vehicle! The dealership ever so nicely gave me a loner after telling them this was bullshit!! The guy at the service desk told me that by driving up and down hills my rotors will warp that fast...I'm sorry i must have missed the sticker on the car that said don't but this if you live near a hill!!!! I'm sooooo upset with this vehicle, its my first new car and I bought it as my family vehicle and i'm getting married and will be having kids soon too. I'll be trading this in to get something different! for paying almost 30,000$ to get a sh*t vehicle, my parents have owned dodge trucks their whole life and haven't had half as many issues as this has....seems like every other month im in for something!

It started off Dodge had a recall , I was not notified. I was driving and had to stop very fast. when I stopped, The whole front end shuttered. This happened at 9,000 miles. Dodge fixed it stating, the rotors and pads were warped. I am now at 35,000 miles, and I need new pads. I took it to the dealership, they want me to pay a $100.00 deductible. I can goto AutoZone buy pads with a limited lifetime warranty for the same amount. But what bothers me is the premature wear on brakepads. So am I going to be replacing pads every year? There is also a class action lawsuit .

I have taken back my car every month since, & the Midas dealer has replaced my brakes each time with lifetime warranty only to have them damaged within a month! Dodge did not pay anything from the $1100. I paid this needs to be a recall, since nothing working, I have tried every name brand heavy duty brakes & they keep wearing down & noise is squeaking & ruining my rotors, My rotors were warped as well! The manufacture installed warped rotors & faulty brake system, don't buy a 2010 Dodge Journey you will regret the monthly visits to the auto repair shop!!! Dodge wake up & fix this now!!!! What's wrong with dodge for not accepting responsibility on a faulty brake system! Brakes squeak loud after 3-4 weeks of new brake installation, I have taken my suv back every month since August 2011. FED up with this Journey!

According to online articles there have been drastic wear in the break pads and rotars. the dealership wants to charge me to replace them when iv'e only had the car for 8 months. I even have a warranty. the dealership needs to do something because no money is coming out of my pocket. On top of that the car is 2010 and its 2011.

I brought my Journey in for it's regular oil change and mentioned to them that there was a "shake" in the steering...yeah, they changed the oil and informed me the brakes needed to be repaired. So, I replied "that's covered under the warranty, right?". "No ma'am, if it's not a manufacturers defect it's not covered under the warranty" ???? Whaaat??? What the hell is the warranty for??? ANYWAY, I had the front brakes done to the tune of about $190.00 and told them to not bother with the rear ones. I'm now in the process of getting rid of that piece of junk, crap, Dodge scrap and will NEVER EVER buy a Dodge/Chrysler product again!!! Oh, I'm in outside sales...yeah, I talk to literally hundreds of people a week and I've told EVERYONE about this...bah, ha, ha, ha, ha!!! Take that you cheap, cheating, bunch of swindling sob's.

At aprox. 22,000k I was given a brake wear analysis which showed 85% remaining for 3 wheels and 70% remaining for the fourth. Shortly after the brakes began grinding and shaking when applied at highway speeds, and eventually the steering wheel would pull out of my grip if I had to brake suddenly. This became a tremendous safety hazard. I took the car to the dealership at 30,000k and was told my pads and rotors on both front and back brakes would need replacing and were down to 30% remaining. This is in the space of about 7 weeks! A Chrysler initiated extended warranty covered the front but I was required to pay for replacement of the rear pads and rotors. When my sales agent inquired of the Dealership Management I overheard him comment he'd heard nothing about brake problems on the Journey (despite the "extended" warranty) and that even though it seemed early to need new brakes it was PROBABLY THE DRIVER! In addition, I also experienced the vibration/shuddering of the vehicle at around 60-70kph and 100-110kph and have been repeatedly told that the service department can't find a problem or recreate it. I find the whole thing even more astonishing to read that there are in fact many identical complaints from other Journey owners. Shame on you Chrysler! and hurray for the power of social media.

All in all I would say that this is a decent vehicle. Certainly there are better ones out there but for the money it is ok. HOwever, I have an issue with the brakes currently that has left me scratching my head. the rear pads are totally gone (metal to metal) as are the rotors. Fronts still have 40% wear left on them according to the dealer. Mechanic says that there is an issue with back sliders rusting so badly that the pads do not retract from the rotor which ends up in the premature wear. If there is an "issue" then you would think that it ceases being normal wear and tear and then becomes a warranty issue. Such is not the case and I am out 400 bucks. Not the biggest issue in the world but brakes that wear out that quickly don't exactly inspire confidence in the vehicle as a whole.

There is no reason this problem should be happening this early in the ownership. Have only had the car for about a year and a half. With all the complaints that are posted Dodge needs to have a recall on these. I have my 16 year old daughter driving this car and as she is taking her drivers training test the wheel starts shaking as she is applying the breaks. Something needs to be done.

at under 12K miles I noticed the front end shaking when putting the brakes on going down hill on the highway. Was in Nevada on vacation. Came home, flat ground driving and didn't get the shimmy much around town. Went on another trip and noticed the shimmy and called Chrysler. They said bring it in to dealer. Read some blogs about the crappy brakes on these cars and the dealership said the rotors were warped. Not by my driving I said. They told me to call Chrysler as they might "help" me with the repair. Called Chrysler and they didn't seem surprised by my complaint of bad brakes. They told me to bring it to the dealer for an inspection, but no work until Chrysler was contacted. Wife brings it in and the service dept left her sitting for 2 hours. When wife asked what was taking so long with the inspection the service tech said they were almost done fixing the problem and had surfaced the rotor. Wife calls me, I call the dealership and pitch a major bitch as they were told don't fix, just inspect. Apparently they called Chrysler without telling us. I was pissed they didn't replace and just ground it down thinner when everyone says thats part of the problem.

Go on another vacation and notice at 19k miles the shimmy is back. Then we get a letter from Chrysler telling us that they have extended the warranty on the brakes to 36k miles and if repair is needed under 24K there is a $50 deductible and if over a $100 deductible for repairs.

Just got back from the dealership that supposedly replaced the pads and rotors with a different part number. Meanwhile my transmission is lurching when coming to a stop. Once a full stop is reached 2 distinct lurches can be felt in the car. Dealer agrees and says it needs repaired. Not sure what is causing that. Not sure what the different part numbers mean on the brake repair either.

my car is shaking and I read on line that so many problems are happening with this. There are 2 class action lawsuits on this issue. Dealer wants me to pay even though there are tons of reports of the same thing.

Update from Sep 2, 2011: ok, so I called Dodge and they said that Yes, the front brakes are not covered until 36,000 miles because they have had so many complaints but the back ones they haven't had complaints about. I find that hard to believe. So she took a report by me about the back breaks and will have a rep call me to discuss further. If they knew about the front breaks, why did they not do that recall? The guy at my dealership claims he knows nothing of any other this, yeah right!! Anyway, the dealer said I didn't have to pay after I told him what was up. I am just hoping for no more problems.

Update from Sep 6, 2011: well my brakes were supposedly fixed, the rotors were put on a machine and grinded. I went out of town for the holiday and as I was coming over the mountain, my car brakes started grinding again and the car was shaking worse than it ever did. I am so frustrated to have a new car and have these problems. I put in another call to Dodge. I just can't believe that this is happening, we have no hills around here and the dealer said he would have a hard time replicating the problem. There is a problem though, a big one!!!

I have had my 2010 Dodge Journey for under two years, which I purchased brand new. I had to have the front brakes and rotors replaced after 12,551 miles. Now I am having the same problem and am told that once again I need to have my brakes replaced again and have to pay a $100 dollar deductible, which is ridiculous. There is no reason why my brakes and rotors are needing to be replaced this soon and that I should have to pay for them. I have spoken to the service department and have called customer service, with no help from them regarding this $100 deductible that I have to pay because of their faulty brakes and rotors they are continuing to put on my car. This is a manufacturer problem not a customer problem and they are putting the blame on me. I was also told from the service department that there is some part they are adding to the brakes that make them last longer. In saying that, that tells me that they are have in fact used faulty brakes. I am very upset with this reoccurring problem and how Dodge is handling this matter. My families safety is at stake and apparently Dodge does not care because it seems they replace faulty brakes with more faulty breaks.

I have only had my vehicle for 5 months and still since day one have not been able to get dodge to replace a tire with a slow leak. I have been getting the run around and have been told to contact tire company on my own for replacement.

I was in the dealership about 3 weeks ago assuming that the vibration in the wheel was due to the tire when I was notified that it was the brakes that and that they would replace them due to a known issue. I left it for the day and when I picked it up they basically told me that they didnt have time to replace the brakes but they did machine the rotors. I have never seen a new car need to have the rotors worked on befor 10k mi. Not 2 weeks later and the vibration is slowly coming back. I contact chrysler for assistance because the dealership was taking the easy road and just completing a job as fast as they can with the band aid method. I was notified today that they are not required to do any more than they have already.

I bought this as my first brand new car and I am very disapointed that I have 66 more payments at $500/mo. for a vehicle that I dont feel safe to drive in. I will never purchase from dodge again. I am told that all the dealerships are franchise and that they do not have to do any more than what they want.

I have had more help and concern from a buy here pay here lot taking much less money from me !

We purchased our 2010 journey new, at 5k miles we replaced the brakes and rotars, fairly bothered by this. Now in May at 13k exactly we had to replace the brakes and rotars again. The dealership, Avondale Dodge has the most horrible customer service in the world. The service guy David said it was the way I drive. Really class action law suit. I will never buy a Dodge again, and I hope no-one else does either. I could have thrown my money in the toliet and been happier. Dodge Corp. office not doing much in the way of helping either.

I drove two other brand new vehicles and NEVER had a problems with brakes or rotors until well into the 60,000 mile area... and my mechanic told me during my first inspection - your rotors are shot. Take it back to the dealership. Of course because it was over 1 year old (when I got it back there) I had to pay $50 deductible and leave the car for the day. Now three weeks later, I was told the back rotors have the same issues - but this time it's not under warranty - at 15,000 miles. I have a call into Chrysler about this one... not a happy journey owner here...
