Magnum RT 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,818 miles

I've had my 06 Magnum RT for just over a year. Love the car but the engine shuts down or idles when attempting to pass. It shifts down, the revs go up to about 3500 to 4000 and the engine goes down to an idle and stays there until I let off the gas. This is only the second time it happened as I generally granny drive the car and don't push it. Maybe that is why the previous owner gave a good deal.

Under less throttle, the car runs flawlessly and shows the potential power it has. I wish I could reliably pass someone when I wish to. This could be quite a problem if you happen to need the power. I ran diagnostics on it and checked all the parameters and it looks good. I get no codes.

My old carbureted 81 GM truck with a 5.7L will still allow me to pass reliably although it has less power. Such a shame that new technology is so potentially unreliable.

I hope that Dodge can figure it out. My 1990 Festiva with 470,000KM on it doesn't do this.

Magnum SXT 3.5L HO

  • Automatic transmission
  • 24,850 miles

My car has spent almost the same amount of time on the road as it has it the shop. Upon application of the throttle randomly over half of the pedal's travel the car has a total nervous breakdown where it loses power, lurches forward, hiccups, loses power again and continues until foot is removed off the throttle.

It tends to whenever the car is passing, turning or otherwise randomly just to piss me off. It has been in to the dealer nine times. The TCM has been replaced. The PCM has been reprogrammed many times. The dealer claims that the engineers at Chrysler don't know what to do. It is going back for it's tenth visit tomorrow (Sept 6 2007) where i will demanding replacement of the PCM, wiring harness and the throttle position sensor or i will drive the bitch into Daimler-Chrysler's corporate front window in Toronto.
