Magnum SXT 2.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 140,000 miles

Sometimes when I turn my car off and remove my key from the ignition the car stays on and the radio continues to play after the driver door is opened. This was a real pain in the ass when I came back to my car one afternoon and the battery was dead because it had been playing the radio like my key was turned forward all day!! I have yet to get this fixed but have learned to be very cautious and make sure that the car is completely off before exiting completely.

ignition switch not working properly

On occasion, I would turn the ignition off and the door would chime as if the key was still in the ignition. I would put the key into the ignition and rotate it on and off and then the door would not chime. This happened a couple of times, randomly. The third time the ignition acted like the key was not turning and the car would not start. Everything pointed to the ignition switch and not the alternator, battery or starter. The key housing has a nylon shaft that had broken off. The garage was able to locate the part for me ($390) instead of replacing the whole steering column ($1400) that the dealership would have charged. Total of 2 days in the shop and a towing charge.
