problem #1

Nov 032008

Ram 1500 XLT 5.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

After replacing defective crankshaft positioning switch in NOV the truck began to randomly misfire on various cylinders....no cylinder was excluded. Full tune-up, plugs, cap rotor, wires....even a coil.

Only occurs when cold....first 10 minutes or so. Serious bucking and pinging occurs, after warm you can tow a boat up a 45 degree angle no problems

Trapped codes are P300, and P301-P308....all random / intermittent misfires as stated on the scanner. Once caught a P351 & P1391 code, offers same feedback re: random misfire.

I am now questioning if the main computer is the source as no sensor re: oxygen or gas mixture has tripped.

Any new ideas would be great !!!!
