problem #2

Feb 022012

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 102,000 miles

Guess what, I'm back!!! Don't know if anyone has read my last complaint but here is another one. I had an engine replaced at 77, 695 miles back in October of 2009. Well, its February 2012 and 25,000 miles later I am having another issue with this 4.7L engine again. I was driving along one day, and low and behold, the oil gauge drops to nothing and the chime goes off. I was coming to a hard stop after some idiot cut me off and I lost oil pressure. I started to drive and the oil pressure came up. I drove it to the dealership I had i serviced at and it was still doing it. Of course when I went to talk with the Service Adviser and tried to show him the issue, it stopped. Even though it was at zero when I parked it. They gave me a rental for the day. The adviser called me and told me that the oil pressure sending unit was bad (leaking) and that the engine had oil pressure. I found that funny because it had worked for 102,000 miles. I have been a mechanic for years and have seen several oil sending units leak severely and still work. I'll get to that later. So I waited while the dealer did the tests that the company who supplied the motor wanted done. I ended up having to rent my own car as the dealer nor the company would not supply me with one. I talked with the adviser at the dealership and he told me something I really didn't want to hear. He said that the company who supplied the engine (Dahmer Powertrain) wanted me to authorize 10 hrs of labor to remove the cylinder heads so they could send out an inspector to see if they were warped due to overheating. Come on people, I know this truck. I drive it every day. It has never overheated, never boiled over, nothing. Keep in mind this engine only has 25,000 miles on it. It is also very well known for the exact same problem. I refused, of course. If this company wants to inspect the heads for tolerances, they can foot the bill, it's their product. I the consumer won't. I am still fighting this so I will update when I get an answer. As for the oil pressure sending unit, I asked the service adviser this. "How do you know it's bad?" He replied, "The technician said it was." I then asked, "How did he test it?" He replied, " I don't know, the tech said it was bad and was leaking." I asked, "Did he even test the voltage output to the PCM?" He replied, "I don't know, the tech said it was bad." I then said, "How do you know its bad if it hasn't been tested properly?" He replied, "I don't know." I told you I know what I am doing! I will fight this until I can't fight anymore. I need help!!! If I start a Class Action Suit against Dahmler Chrysler, will anyone help me? I need all of you out there to get on board and help. Thanks.

problem #1

May 042010

Ram 1500 5.9L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 82,021 miles

when the truck is warmed up, the oil pressure drops to 0 but goes back up when you give it gas.I have replaced 2 OEM pressure sending units and 2 after market but the problem still exists. One sending unit worked really good until it started leaking 5 months later, but the others I have replaced are doing the same thing. This is my first dodge, I love my truck, but based on what I have read here, may be my last.I have been a GM guy all my life but GM is falling apart. Dodge has the nicest body style out there.

Does anyone have any explanation to this problem?
