Ram 1500 4.2L

  • Manual transmission
  • 30,000 miles

My 2005 Dodge Ram had 3rd gear go out. It would pop out of gear. Dealership took it apart and said they would call when the parts came in. A week later I was still in a rental car....I was paying for. I finally called them and told them I couldn't play the rental game indefinitely. They put it back together and I just drove without 3rd gear. Later 1st and reverse started going out. I had to kill the engine to put it in 1st or reverse. I took it to a different dealership. They replaced the transmission with a rebuilt one. Lasted over 100,000 miles. The kid I sold it to had transmission problems later and finally used it as trade in on another car.

Ram 1500 4.7L PowerTech V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 138,573 miles

Going down the highway when all of the sudden I had no forward or reverse gears as if the car was in neutral. Park does not stop the car from rolling.

Ram 1500 Daytona 5.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

Was lucky that transmission failed and I was able to coast into a parking lot out of danger.

Sad to say that I found out after the problem that many people have to replace or re-build Dodge/Chrysler transmissions after 70,000 miles.
