Ram 1500 3.7L Magnum

  • Manual transmission
  • 80,000 miles

A good quality engine should not have no clicking, clacking or cloanking noises.especially only having 80,000 miles on it. Changing the 5W 30 oil every 3000 miles with the required maintenance, would seem to keep all in good running shape.

Being a mechanic I get annoyed at hearing clicking noises.

The noise coming from the 3.7L engine, I would describe as sticking lifters but putting a stethescope noise isolating instrument, the noise seems to be coming from the mid to rear belly pan area. I would agree this is a lemon. Either incompetent employees or defective design, either way, something is not correct.

My last Ford Ranger had over 250,000 miles and the engine still sounds as good as the day it was bought..

  • Automatic transmission
  • 57,900 miles

I was driving on the Interstate and my check engine light came on then the truck started shaking, and Idling really ruff. Then I heard a loud clicking noise. Took the truck home pulled the plugs and the # 7 cylinder the plug was completely fried. Took it to the shop, had them put a scope down in the cylinder the piston and cylinder were beat to hell. Compression test showed no compression # 7 cylinder. Time for a new Engine. warranty was 36000 miles had 57900

Truck makes a tapping noise at idle and disappears when the engine revs. Very annoying, dealer says its normal. If it was normal, why haven't I heard that noise before?? Horrible quality DODGE!!

Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,800 miles

I noticed a "knocking" lifter tapping in my 5.7 Dodge Ram 1500 engine. I took it to the Dodge Dealer to be checked out. They told me this was "normal" but when I went to drive a newer truck with the 5.7 engine, it ran quiet. I asked the service manager why the difference and he told he would contact the district factory engineer. When the engineer did investigate the noise he did it while I wasn't there. He left a message with the dealership stating the "noise" was normal. Go figure. I now have 47,300 miles and the tapping is still there but no problems with the engine other than being terribly annoying.

Ram 1500 Lonestar 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 138,000 miles

OK I went out of town (120 miles max) to pick up my kids and my truck started shaking really hard and acted like it was puttering out and I was going 70 mph on the interstate. I had to slow down to 50mph and it continued to shake really hard. My engine light would blink and ding. Then it would stay on for awhile and then it would ding and blink some more. I stopped at NTB the only place open and they told me the computer said I had a misfire in cylinder 7 and needed new spark plugs (for $250.00) so I called my mechanic and he said just to drive safe back home. When I got home we ran the codes and it said a misfire on cylinder 5 & 7 and the gas was too rich. We changed the spark plugs (for $30.00) however it still runs like crap. It shakes really hard and struggles to go even if you're at 40mph it can all of a sudden shake and act like it wants to die....I took it to the shop and they have said its cylinder 7 and an exhaust leak. I have to send the heads in to be fixed and then whatever else they run across. So far about 1800.00 in damages. He also said the dodge 4.7L engine is the worst out there right now and I should trade while I can. I can also have a new engine put in for about $4000.00 It really has not been the greatest new years....

Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,148 miles

What really bothers me is you spend alot of money on such a nice ride and it starts to fall apart after a minimal amount of miles, What kind of workmanship is THAT? THE engine knocks and clacks on cold start , like the lifters are worn out ,weak And the crank bearings aren't getting enough oil pressure, Im a thirty year automotive tech Ive heard these symptoms many times before on older vehicles with high miles. So I guess what Im trying to say is dodge needs to step up and correct this problem at no cost to the consumer. thank you

Ram 1500 SLT Megacab 4x4 5.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

Was wondering if anyone is experiencing engine noise coming from what sounds like the bottom of the engine.. it sounds like rolling clunking noise but it sounds like marbles in a crown royal bag.... and u shake em around in a way that would be like rotations in an engine.. i was told from a friend it sounds like a lifter or three ? i noticed that it has been running a little under powered lately.... and i run 91 gas in it at all times..anyone experiencing that same problem??? also noticed that it goes away when it warms up but if you start it cold.... it wont make the noise right away it needs to go down to a 600rpm idle after the initial warmup idle of around 900 or what not... after it switches down to the lower rpm is where you are more prone to hear it.....

and if you have the best warranty possible... is there a way the dealer can deny the work if it ends up being a lifter if i added a K & N Intake on it ??? that is all the mods I have done to the engine...

Thank you
