Ram 1500 5.6L

 • Automatic transmission
 • 136,600 miles

i have been having this issue lately. My truck turns off while I am driving, most of the time it happens on the expressway. I was thinking of change it for a new 2019 another Dodge but honestly not anymore. This situation is very scary. I won't recommend this truck to nobody.

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L

 • Automatic transmission
 • 172,000 miles

The truck has a tendency to die with no warning. I changed the Crank Shaft Position Sensor, based on other posts I have read on line. Pretty annoying when your at a busy intersection and the truck dies. It starts again, but without a fight.

Ram 1500 3.7L

 • Automatic transmission
 • 75,000 miles

It died for no reason in the middle of the highway during rush hour traffic.

It acted like a bad fuel pump so we replaced the fuel pump for $200. Not the problem (luckily the parts place took the new pump back, so no loss).

After replacing the old good fuel pump the starter refused to respond to the ignition. Starter was checked, still good.

Then the gauges failed to respond, and then the radio, and then the headlights, etc.

Took it to a mechanic, scanner said "Error". They looked at it for two days and it lead to the Totally Integrated Power Module (fuse box under the hood) getting power but none coming back out on several pins.

I love my truck and just want it running without spending almost $1000 every time this box fails.

truck auto shut off while driving and loosing control

This is the third time this has happened and will be the last as the truck will not be driven until Dodge Corporate office finds a solution. As I was driving on I-64 E at 70mph the truck auto shut off loosing all power steering and brakes. No check engine light, no hard idling just shut down. Since I was not able to control the truck I let go and crashed into a ditch off the shoulder of the highway. No codes in the computer when diagnosed and truck starts up fine after the fact. Have read various complaints of this happening to Dodge Rams 2006-2011 yet Dodge has no recall. Already submitted a complaint on nhtsa.gov and with Dodge Corporate offices.

Ram 1500 Big Horn Edition 4.7L

 • Automatic transmission
 • 153,000 miles

I love my truck, I loved it even when we had to pay for a brand new motor. My truck itself has 135,000 miles on it, the engine has about 30,000 miles. It's been uneven when idling for a few months now (revving for no reason, then settling back down, only during idle). No check engine light, no sputtering, no stalling. About 2 weeks ago, I found a leaky seal that was giving me an oil leak and a bad hose that was giving me a rad leak. Fixed both the same day. Since then she has not wanted to start every time. I've never had her fail to start yet, but I have to really crank it sometime to get her to turn over.

Three days ago, it stalled for the first time, while going up hill during rush hour, after just sitting at a red light. Popped it into neutral, restarted with no problem, and made it home, but it stalled three more times. Still no check engine light, no problem with gauges except for my tachometer, which has never worked anyway. Been pegged at zero since I bought the truck. It did swing up for no apparent reason after each of the stalls. The last one was when I tried to turn onto my street and trying to accelerate from 5 mph to 20 mph. All stalling incidents were during acceleration. Yesterday, I switched her to 94 Octane gasoline, instead of 87 Octane and she didn't stall, However, every time I tried to turn a corner and then accelerate, it would sputter, and there was no engine response. It would rev as if it were in neutral and I were pushing on the gas, but it wouldn't actually accelerate for a good 4-8 seconds.

My physical therapist had the same problem, with his it was the crank shaft sensor. I was thinking throttle placement sensor, but since it happens more the longer it's been running, and was made better by higher octane gas, I'm thinking possibly EVAP leak or sensor in the EVAP system. I'll update when the garage is done with it.

Ram 1500 ST 3.7L

 • Automatic transmission
 • 70,856 miles

Well, just like many others, my truck stalled with warning while turning in traffic. No engine warning light and no code. This has happened 8 times since August. The dealership claims this is the first they have heard of this. They also want the truck left with them to isolate the problem. The issue is, there isn't a particular event or time when it happens. Completely random. Now the truck has 73,380 miles on it so it is time to change the transmission filter and fluid. I will start there. Good luck to everyone.

Ram 1500 SLT 5.7L Hemi

 • Automatic transmission
 • 65,000 miles

the block on the 5.7L hemi has really sharp corners causing the wiring for the crank position sensor to be cut causing an intermittent short. this will cause the engine to die suddenly normally when going over a bump such as a speed bump or rain gutter. i soldered the wire back together and smoothed out the corner of the block with a file and eliminated the problem.

1st Dodge, LAST Dodge!! Vehicle stalls randomly while idling in gear, reversing, ding at low speeds. No check engine lights, no misfires, engine runs normal. Dealer can't figure out whats going on. Also makes a metal rattling noise when the transmission shifts to third gear, around 30-40mph. Bearings are good, sounds like it's coming from the torque converter area!! Sad thing is, I've never towed anything with this truck.

Ram 1500 Sport 5.7L Hemi

 • Automatic transmission
 • 46,000 miles

Had stalling when pulling up to stops and generally slowing down, also noticed sluggish shifting under moderate acceleration. Tuner did not show any codes or problems. I had the dealer drop the trans pan and clean it and change BOTH filters (yes there are 2 make sure you get Chrysler OE ones not aftermarket fram or whatever, they don't have the corrected seals to completely seal up the filter) and change the fluid and put back in the OE SYNTHETIC trans fluid. these transmissions are very finicky and don't like aftermarket products internally. After it was completed, i instantly noticed better shifting and no more stalling.

Another symptom of this is delayed gear engagement when putting truck into drive gear (forward or reverse) at initial start-up after it has sat over night.

dealer service cost about 180 out the door and your good for another 30k on the transmission.

Ram 1500 laramie

I have had soooo many front end troubles, recalls, brakes it is ubelievable!

Everything so far has been covered under warranty but now it is up. Im worried they wont cover any futher troubles because the dealer I bought it from the Service manager told me to never bring it back to the dealership for service again. I have purchased 3 vehicles from this dealer.

Im having it serviced at another dealer & they cant find the engine trouble! They want me to pay to have the front end checked with 60,000 KM on it. I know the tie rod ends are loose & it shakes the steering wheel when coming to a stop. Ive reported this trouble to a manager at Chrysler & they gave me a service #
This is supposed to be a $50,000 4X4 heavy duty truck & Im afraid to drive it across an intersection. Like one of members said the roughest terrain is my lawn. The heaviest items its carried is my golf clubs. Chrysler better stop begging for money & use good parts to build these trucks & stand behind them when they know they are cheaply made. Im better off to buy a Suzuki samauri again it had much better quality & guess what? YOU COULD ACTUALLY TAKE IT OFF ROAD!!!!!!!

Update from Sep 9, 2009: After speaking with chrysler mechanics & other people who have the same front end troubles I think I have the solution! The front end of the 2006 was re-designed for coil over on the 2006 4X4. The dummies at Chrysler said lets use the front wheel design from a Caravan it has drive train & rack steering PERFECT!!!! They forgot the 4X4 option 3:92 posi rear end,20" tires puts wat too much load & strain on engine & front end tie rods, shocks, bearings & power stearing components especially in cold climate like Ottawa Ontario.
When I first bought the truck the rude Service manager & I went for a drive & when put in electronic 4 wheel the thing shakes under power. No other Dodge Ram ever did this!! He says oh thats because 4X4s have a lot of drive train stress. If Dodge ever came clean they would have to replace the front end to components from a 2009. Look under a new 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 front end CHANGED!!!

Own up Chrysler all the 2006,2007 & 2008 4X4 Ram 1500s have the same troubles. FIX IT OR SOMEBODY IS GOING TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT CAUSING DEATH OR INJURY!!!!
Update from Nov 22, 2009: Front end tie rods 2nd set with 65000KMs loose again. Steering shakes when driving & stopping. Jacked up front end both outer tie rods move 1 inch. Also inner tie rod on 2006 driver side loose.

Checked all 2008 dodge ram 4X4s in Capital Dodge used car & truck tie rods changed. Also Dakota used trucks had new tie rod ends. I wonder why???? DUUUU Dodge youve got a defective steering part from the factory.

Youre changing them when they come in & not on recall you are in trouble!!!!! Ive complained to Canadas transportation safety & the same guy keeps telling me its not a safety issue?? He says you wont loose steering control if one tie rod lets go. The truck pulls bad to the right with the defective ones in place Can you imagine if one lets go??? When you apply the brakes it will pull you off the road or into oncoming.
CMON DODGE you say you have the most trouble free trucks with the 2009 Ram 1500. First recall the ones on the road that youre fixing when they come in for trade. What about the owners that are driving around with these pieces of garbage!!!!!
If the steering lets go on mine now you know who Im going to SUE. Even youre service managers & mechanics know that is one of the biggest design flaws among the many on DODGE RAM & DAKOTA. They are told to shut up about it or theyll loose thier job. Great fear tactics: Im telling you with the front end & engine stalls this thing is a death trap!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update from Nov 20, 2010: 2nd EGR valve defective. When the weather got cool the hemi knocks & bangs like its going to shake out of the mounts. Its the EGR valve. This is the second one like every other defective part. They dont fix or upgrade the troubled parts they just change until the warranty is up. You can`t do this & keep loyal customers!!!!!!
