Ram 1500 SLT Big Horn Edition 4.7L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,864 miles

Just bought the vehicle last week and went to show off to my friends a couple days later went to put it in drive and the engine just revved put it in reverse and it did the same thing. Put in park and heard a loud grinding noise, turned it off and turned it back on and it shifted fine for the rest of the week.

Went to go to work one morning and the thing won't shift into gear. Tried to turn it off and back on, still nothing. Put in park to get out and the thing started to roll. The parking brake won't engage and the E-brake isn't working either, so I had to keep holding the brake to keep the truck from rolling into my garage door. Luckily my neighbor came by and chucked the wheels so I can get out.

Called the dealership and they say they are so backed up they won't be able to see it till next month. So now it is sitting in front of my garage. My driveway is an uphill slope so I can't even push it. I can't roll it in my garage because that is where my old truck (transmission failure) is sitting. Go figure own 3 Dodge trucks and all 3 have transmission problems. See if I buy another Dodge again.

Update from Nov 22, 2020: Found out the issue a month after posting original complaint back in 2015 just never came back to edit, but anyway it was the transfer case shift motor. What it was doing was I would put the truck in drive it would not go anywhere put in reverse still the same, put in park loud metal grinding sound. The shift motor would sometimes randomly try to shift on me and occasionally it would just go into neutral. A month after posting this the truck randomly shifted into 4 lo at 60mph and as you can imagine it did not work well for the truck

Ram 1500 SLT Hemi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,900 miles

Was pulling my boat out of the water when the tires started slipping. Put the transmission in 4wd and pulled the boat out of the water. Changed the selector on the dash back to 2wd and nothing changed. The truck stayed in 4 wd h and will not go back in 2wd. Tried everything the manual said to do and the problem will not go away. Should have bought a FORD like I started to when I got this truck. Can't believe this truck has only 35900 miles on this truck. I have never used it to go 4 wheeling and at most used it about 6 times a year to pull my boat only about 25 miles to the lake, and I don't mean up hill.

Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

Was pulling into my driveway and had the truck in 2 wheel drive, it went into 4 wheel drive all by itself and almost tore the tires off the truck. If I had been making a turn on a road instead of my driveway I may have lost control and hit another vehicle. Dealer gave no reason why this happened. Third major thing on this truck in the first 7000 miles.
