The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving at approximately 40 mph, the rear wheels seized and prevented the vehicle from functioning. In addition, the wheels unlocked independently. The contact mentioned an abnormal noise was heard from the rear of the vehicle while driving. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pinion bearing was loose and the rear axle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13V038000 (power train) before the failure occurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

The contact owns a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, a loud noise emitted from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that two months later, the noise got louder and the vehicle hesitated before shifting into four wheel drive. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the rear axle pinion nut needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle had been previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 13V038000 (power train). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,000.
