Ram 2500 Dash Top Disel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 120,000 miles

I'm like all others who own a Dodge truck that cost approx $30,000. A nice truck with great drive train and a nice leather inside but a dash top that has nothing but cracked pieces nothing to hold ash tray, lighter, or cup holder. My only gripe about my truck. The sad part is there is nothing under the defective plastic to hold anything.

cracked dashboard cracked dashboard cracked dashboard

Everything was just fine with no problems in dashboard area and then all of a sudden, get in the truck and have a big split right down the middle of dash and into vent near window. Really concerned because the loose dash now feels very weak and crumbly. I am concerned about having an accident and how the sharp shards of plastic will impact driver or passengers if have a collision.

I wouldn't have thought the plastic would have deteriorated like that. It just seems very flimsy. I would like to have my dash replaced. I still use my truck and is in good maintenance condition. I have no intention of selling it or trading it. Good truck with this exception.

Come on, Dodge. You know the dashes are your fault. I have a 1997 Camaro, a 1997 Jeep Cherokee, a 1992 Ford pickup AND a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. They all sit in the same driveway and get the same amount of sun, heat, and cold as the Dodge. The Dodge is the only vehicle with ANY dash problems and it is DESTROYED. I would think this would be embarrassing for you. The little plastic pieces on the dash started to disintegrate the FIRST time the truck was professionally detailed. This would become a major hazard in a collision.

THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM !!!!!!!!! HAS ANYONE EVER GOTTEN DODGE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR THEM IF SO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THEY DID IT. LOVE MY DODGE P/U BUT IT LOOKS LIKE A PIECE OF CRAP WITH THE CRACKED DASH WITH HOLES IN IT.

Ram 2500 Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

Crack developed in the dash cover several years ago. It became severe and as I was doing heating a/c repairs the entire dash self destructed and is now in many pieces. A simple cover will no longer work. I need a new dash. Now all the heating and wiriing is exposed. Sharp edges everywhere.

Update from Feb 16, 2012: Dodge dealer no longer has parts. I found a few venders online. Prices varied from $500 down to about $250. I bought from Steve White Motors. Delivered in 3 days. The removal and replacement was a challenge, but doable. I had a maintenance book that helped me figure out some of the dashboard removal and found more online. I had to buy a long phillips head screwdriver to get to the heat ducts and screws that hold the top to the front.

Just realized tons of Dodge owners have had the same problem with the cracked dashboard... I am the new owner of the Dodge but was told it has been that way a very long time. Dodge should have done a recall for that!

really like my truck a lot , but very embarrasing when i have to pick up client and they look at dash all busted up have glued back together several times and finds a new place to break cant use cup holder because its also broken very cheap parts on interior parts for a very good truck , this is the place where you sit and see the malfunctions that dodge has created by trying to save money on cheap plastics

Very irritating when you try to keep up your older vehicle, the first new one I ever bought, and the cracks continue even when you duck tape em....finally i just lifted the entire dash out piece by piece....dodge knows the problem but keep ducking responsibility....it is dangerous all sharp edges and razor sharp pieces existing

Discouraged that Dodge says no recall. Cracks began less than five years after purchase even though protected by sun cover and taken care of. Noticed new small crack about six months ago and dash spit completely in half two months ago (overnight).
