Ram 2500 SLT 5.9L Cummins Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

Finally took this to the dealer this week and they said it was the door actuator that was causing the AC not to blow out of the passenger side dash board. It was going to be $2300 to fix. 6 hours of labor at $700 and the rest was parts.

Yet a friend who had the same issue took to a dealer in PA and was charged $1000 for the same repair

So opted to have the AC charged and found a way to get the vents to stay open and will deal with the issue in the fall when I have to close the vents for the defrost to work. Since the $2300 was not an option.

Drive side foot vent does not open. Your feet freeze on the driver side while the passenger side cooks. Dealer said they have to take the entire dash apart to fix this problem at hundreds of dollars since it's out of warranty.

Dodge likes to use flimsy plastics crap for something that will be seeing frequent use.

After reading about this problem, I discovered that many Dodge Ram owners have suffered the breaking of their blending doors with little more than a year of use all so that Dodge can save a few bucks and hope for even more cash when customers wishes to replace it with overpriced crap & labor charges.

To avoid the $650 labor charge that the dealer wanted on top of another $45 dollar crappy plastic OEM replacement, I did a lot of research through some diesel forums and found "Heater Treater".

There is a guy that makes replacement doors out of real material instead of the cheap crap that Dodge likes to put in their trucks. The new doors are made of steel and meant to outlast the truck.

Not wanting to take any chances, I purchased all 4 blending door sets and had a local 4x4 shop replace all of them (Dodge dealer can kiss my a$$, I would rather give my money to a reputable small shop)

The total damage was just over $850 bucks, but I have stronger doors that won't break and will last for a very long time.

I have attached side by side photos of the busted plastic blending door (beige color) against the new Heater Treater steel blending door (black color)

I can't believe the Dodge dealer repair price range for $1200 to $1800 to pull the dash and repair the blend door on the heater. They said the charge $100. per hr. the part is about $80.00. so I don't think it should take almost two days to remove the dash. This was a quote from Dodge dealer in Ontario, Ore. The first time in Boise ID. it only took about 4 hrs. Shame on Dodge for this very bad cheap part.

The heater blend door has been repaired twice. The first repair was under warranty. The second repair was at my expense 4,000 miles ago and now the defect has presented itself again.

Allen Samuels Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will not stand behind their repair work. They have offered to redo the repair work at half their normal labor rate of $120 per hour and charge me 7 to 8 hours labor. I spent $1498 with Allen Samuels to repair the air conditioning unit, replacing the compressor, the upper and lower housing units and the blender door just 4,000 miles ago.

I would like any help possible in initiating a class action suit against Chrysler Corporation as they are well aware of this defect in their vehicles, but are not willing to accept blame or responsibility after the initial warranty.

As of 10/2006, this is now the 5th blend door that has broken. The first two were within the first three years and under warranty. The third, I felt with Chrysler/ram directly and they helped. The 4th again, they helped with the part and I paid the labor. They did give me some free oil changes. This time, not a damn thing, they couldn't /won't do anything to help. 5 times this damn thing has broke. What a crock of s#€t,,,,,

I had this fixed in 2009 when the vehicle only had 36,000 miles on it, 150 miles over the warranty, Paid $400.00 plus parts. This happened again at 82,000 mile & they want $1200.00 to $1600.00 to fix it for an $80.00 part. Really???? Can not afford to fix it at this time. Other than that happy with the truck.

I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 Mega Cab Cummins Diesel, have ac problems with blend door, was fixed one time during warranty went out again at 70,000 miles of course now have around 100k on truck..This is a problem they need to address...They will not stand behind their products and will not issue a recall unless forced too. I will never ever buy another Chrysler product and will tell everyone I know what a piece of #$%@ it is...I hope y'all think its worth it to lose numerous customers over a mistake you should have recalled. I wonder when Y'all will be bankrupt again!!!

Obviously, Chrysler has a major defect in their blend door design; they don't appear to be working properly. Is it going to take a class action suit for them to fix this problem?
