Ram 3500 Big Horn Edition Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

We were on vacation and stopped at a gas station. When we started to get back on the interstate we got up to about 40mph, and it was clear that the trucks transmission was not shifting out. We panicked of course, because we were about 500 miles away from home and about 400 miles from where we were going. After putting the truck into neutral and back into drive a couple of times, the truck finally shifted gears and we were able to get on our way. The truck did the same thing about 3 more times along our trip. When we reached our destination we took the truck into a dodge dealership in Hammond, LA. They kept our truck for a day and told us they could not find anything wrong with it. Yesterday the truck did the same thing again, but this time we had to pull off the road and park the truck for a few minutes----after which we were able to get it to accelerate and go into gear. (It had been about 2 weeks since it last did this.)

I am at such a loss. I don't know what to do at this point. How do we fix something when trained professionals tell us they can't find a problem. If anyone has had a similar issue, i would welcome the insight. Thanks!
