Stratus SE 2.7L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 78,510 miles

When we drive our vehicle it tends to fall into "fail safe" mode. It falls into 1st gear and will reset itself when turned off and then back on again, which sometimes doesn't work. In a 3 mile trip sometimes it won't shift normally. If any one out there has heard of this problem and knows the remedy for it please contact us!!!

Stratus 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,000 miles

My 1995 Dodge Stratus with 116,000 miles shifts into neutral while driving for no apparent reason. It will also often get stuck in low gear and will not shift into high gear or it will downshift into low gear and get stuck there for no apparent reason. If I turn off the engine and restart it, it will shift normally again though sometimes this takes several restarts. I did have the transmission control module replaced (cost $500) but this did not solve the problem.

Stratus EX V4

while driving down the road, the car shifts into neutral. When you slow down it finally shifts into 1st. gear and will not upshift.

Stratus ES

This has been a problem just months after we bought the car. You have it in cruise going down the highway at 75 mph then all of a sudden it goes to between 7 and 8 RPMs and then it is in neutral. You have to pull over, then as you are slowing down it jerks into 1st gear. Then you turn off the engine and restart it and it may or may not be able to shift into gears other than 1st. I drive 24 miles to work and back and this becomes a real pain when it does it every day. By the way in does not seem to do this as much in the colder weather.
