C-Max Hybrid LX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

The compass on the my Ford C-Max gives inaccurate directions to turn when following a map. For example, when the compass top indicates "N" for north the rights side of the globe should read "W" for WEST on the LEFT and "E" for EAST on the RIGHT, as would be the case for any map anywhere in the world. However the two letters are reversed such that following written or printed directions to go west while driving north would have the driver making a right turn rather than a left turn - possibly on to a one-way road.

This is not just annoying as the dealer seems to believe. Nor is it a matter of subjective design, as one technician suggested. Our convention of driving on the right side of the road instead of the left is our nation's convention, followed by many others. But when driving north, right is east and left is west anywhere on the planet. This is an example of poor design on the part of Ford and I hope they will address it.

I have managed to convince one of the techs at my dealer - McCafferty Ford in Langhorne, PA that it is inaccurate and he said he would contact Ford. After 10 months and dealing with two techs and two service managers, nothing has been done. Apparently so long as no one else notices or suffers harm due to this design error Ford intends to do nothing. Please contact Ford about your car.
