Contour GL

Going down the road, with no method to its madness, my overdrive light starts blinking. As a result of the overdrive light blinking, the car shifts hard and drops into drive from park. Took it to Transdrive, and they say the valves in the transmission are shot, I don't think that is the case though. Any ideas?
