problem #1

Contour SE 2.0L

The car and lights shut off while I was driving.

My son had to drive quite a distance to come help us because roadside service said we were too far from home???? Anyway, he charged the battery with his car and followed us. We got close to home and the car shut off again, so he charged it again to get us home. We replaced the alternator. (The battery was only about two days old.)

This alternator was checked BEFORE it was installed and was found to be good. Now that this happened twice in two days, the mechanic thinks there is an electrical short or something going on. (The battery was replaced a few days before the first alternator was installed, because I thought that was the problem.)

Update from Nov 3, 2010: We checked the fuses and wiring, but the problem still exists.
