the problem was that something in the brake booster blew so the brakes were always spongy. Upon further evaluation I found that the brake fluid was leaking into the wrong side of the brake booster and going into the exhaust system. It reduced the power and brakes were not great until replaced. Master cylinder also replaced at same time.
